Named: Radio-TV Correspondents Association CandidatesWe've obtained the roster of candidates for the Radio-Television Correspondents' Galleries annual election (Executive Committee positions). The election will be held on December 10 and 11.
Good day fellow members. I'll get right to the point. I ask for your vote December 10th and 11th in person at the Senate Radio-TV Gallery as a member of the RTCA executive committee. Here's why. For much of my nearly two decades in Washington, D.C., I've covered or dealt with the elected/appointed officials and many of you who have made Capitol Hill, the White House and elsewhere in official Washington a professional home and the staff that facilitates our needs. I want to represent you by taking my diverse combination of Washington knowledge obtained from experience at Al Jazeera, WTTG, the former CONUS news cooperative, C-SPAN and National Public Radio, with a trackwork of teamwork therein, a listening ear and a voice of advocacy for access to meet your needs as RTCA members. Again I ask you to vote for Jeff Ballou on December 10th&11th. I will in turn give you my ear, experience and voice at the table. Thank you. Lisa Desjardins, CNN Radio. Lisa Desjardins, formerly Lisa Goddard, is the Capitol Hill correspondent for CNN Radio. Her experience includes print, television, radio and the enigma of multimedia. Prior to CNN Radio, Lisa worked for Associated Press Radio here in Washington and covered politics in South Carolina for WIS-TV. With an an eye on the new visitors' center, Lisa is committed to mazimizing access for broadcasters, especially photojournalists. She would seek wide input and push for debate over new technology, such as ever-smaller video cameras, working for a level playing field between print and broadcast photographers. Desjardins speaks Russian and has a mercurial record with baked goods. Jamie Dupree, Cox Radio Jamie Dupree is the News Director for the Washington Bureau of Cox Radio. A member of the Radio TV Galleries for the past 22 years, Jamie has served the past two years on the Executive Committee and is well acquainted with coverage and access issues that confront both radio and television news organizations operating on Capitol Hill. Jill Jackson, CBS News Jill Jackson is a Capitol Hill Field Producer for CBS News. Since moving to Washington,DC, Jackson's worked for All Things Considered at National Public Radio and covered the Hill as a reporter at Capitol News Connection with PRI. Jackson's background covering the Hill for both radio and television gives her a unique understanding of the challenges, and opportunities, the Capitol offers to reporters working for small start-ups, as well as for large established news organizations. Jackson's been in the thick of some of the most intense stories on Capitol Hill since 9/11. She covered the U.S. Supreme Court confirmation processes of both Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito. She also filed daily on the contentious House and Senate attempts to pass immigration reform and, most recently, spent many hours staked out in hallways covering the behind the scenes, step by step sausage making involved with the economic recovery package. As a member of the Executive Committee, Jackson will work with members to address coverage issues that come up with the opening of the Capitol Visitor Center. Many reporters say that access to lawmakers in the Capitol makes this beat one of the best in Washington and she will work to keep it that way. Jill Jackson was raised in Washington State and graduated with a degree in International Studies from the University of Washington. She began her career in broadcasting at KUOW Public Radio in Seattle. Chad Pergram, FOX News Chad Pergram covers Congress for FOX News. He joined FOX last year after stints with Capitol News Connection with PRI, NPR and C-SPAN. In March 2006, the Radio/Television Correspondents Association saluted him with the Joan S. Barone Award for Excellence in National Affairs/Public Policy Broadcast Journalism. Pergram is the youngest recipient of the award and was the first radio reporter to be honored in 12 years. He also won an Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence In Reporting in March 2007 for his coverage of outgoing House Majority Leader Tom DeLay R-TX). Pergram has served as an RCTA Executive Committee member for the past two years and is a board member of the US Capitol Historical Society. Peter Slen, C-SPAN Peter is a Senior Executive Producer at C-SPAN TV. He's part of the senior team guiding C-SPAN's editorial product, including congressional hearing coverage, Washington Journal, and BookTV. An on air host for several C-SPAN programs, Slen anchors the Washington Journal, The Communicators, Newsmaker, network specials, political conventions, and several book programs. With C-SPAN since 1993, he has extensive experience covering Congress and politics. Prior to joining C-SPAN, Slen worked for several years as Press Secretary for then- Rep. Christopher Cox. Started in Senator Richard Lugar's mailroom. Email This Post |
