How many suits do you own? Two.

What word do you routinely misspell? None. I mostly just mispronounce.

Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Yes.

Did you see The Da Vinci Code? No.

What's the name of your cell phone ring? "Old-Fashioned Telephone"

What time did you get up this morning? 9:15 a.m.

When did you last cry and why? In May, seeing the first photos of my sister's newborn, my parents' first grandchild.

Beach, city or country? Country

Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? I wouldn't go around saying anything of the sort. How obnoxious would that be?

What color is your bathroom? Bright blue.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? 100, including spam.

What's your opinion of New York City? New Yorkers have always given me the impression that my opinion doesn’t really matter.

What's your favorite letter? The Welsh "Ll."

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Jonathan Coleman, non-fiction writing instructor at U-Va.

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? No, and I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone who has. Do you?

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? Fantasia, followed by a tie between Elliott and Bo, followed by a tie between John Stevens. Jr.., Kelly Clarkson and Scott Savol...

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? On and off for the past three years with an adult literacy student. I think he's going to drop me, though, because I was no help trying to decode his Medicare drug plan paperwork.

Who is your favorite active journalist? Skipping past the dozen or so Washington Post reporters who top my list (so as not to look like a total butt-kisser)... Anthony Lane of The New Yorker.

What did you have for breakfast? Hot tea (milk and sugar), Grape Nuts with banana and mixed berries.

What's your favorite item of clothing? Red-and-black silk jersey DVF cocktail dress. Or my wetsuit.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Toothpaste.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? Flight.

Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? Sorry, this is more like a dissertation topic.
