"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Chuck Todd: The FishbowlDC Interview

chucktodd123.jpgThis week, we sit down with Hotline editor-in-chief Chuck Todd, who, like us, shares a similar "what's the big deal?" attitude about New York City and receives -- no jokes -- 1500 to 2000 emails a day.

How many suits do you own?
10

What word do you routinely misspell?
public (just search the hot"l"ine for the misspelling and you'll be surprised)

Did you see Brokeback Mountain? no, my wife di; it's on our "save until I delete" part of the TiVO; I wish I could delete you, but I can't. Why? Why! Actually, I'm going to delete it tonight!

Did you see The Da Vinci Code?
I did -- we deemed it babysitter worthy.

What's the name of your cell phone ring? Whatever Cingular pre-programmed

What time did you get up this morning? 445

When did you last cry and why? prefer to keep this private

Which of the seven deadly sins are you? depends on the day... but pride is the one that has done me in the most.

Beach, city or country? beach

Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? good looking enough that my wife isn't embarrassed to be seen with me... that's all I care about.

More when you click below...

What color is your bathroom? one of them is blue and white striped -- funky little pattern actually.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? between 1,500 and 2000

What's your opinion of New York City? if it wasn't for the restaurants, there would be NO REASON to ever visit that cesspool.

What's your favorite letter? W -- and not for the political reasons. I've always been fascinated that the letter is not called "double v"; it's not a double "u"; unless of course you are from the Roman empire and don't have a "u" in your alphabet and instead use "v" all the time. (sorry, I've watched "History of the World, Part I" one too many times)

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Doug Bailey (founder of Hotline) and Bob Balkin (cousin and one-time E-i-C of Hotline)

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? just one -- HotlineTV baby! And you can download it to on iTunes... search "HotlineTV" and subscribe today. The next 100 subscribers get a special flipflop phone made exclusively from flipflops actually worn by Hotline staffers who didn't wake up early enough to shower after one of those Thursday nights.

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? hate the show... in fact, I love to hate to show; i'm the worst kind of hater sometimes.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? Atlantic Media has a tremendous foundation that makes volunteering easy for all of us. All of us at Hotline regularly volunteer. Most recently for me was a turn at the Samaritan's Inn. Sorry to sound sappy, but it's what makes Atlantic Media one of the better companies to work for. (and no, i don't have censors reading over my shoulder)

Who is your favorite active journalist? this is tough... I'm going with Brokaw because they guy has somehow stayed trusted by the public and both parties... something I aspire to.

What did you have for breakfast? bowl of raisin bran

Who is your favorite active journalist? this is tough... I'm going with Brokaw because they guy has somehow stayed trusted by the public and both parties... something I aspire to.

What's your favorite item of clothing? my cuban shirts

What one toiletry item could you not live without? deodorant... let's be realistic... smelly is bad

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? What was Green Lantern's superpower? it had something to do with making things green? I don't know, the power to change color? was that his gig? Anyway, I was always fascinated with Green Lantern; he was my favorite SuperFriend...

Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? Dora! (so my daughter believes)

Each FishbowlDC Interview subject is asked to contribute a word to this ongoing thread. Thus far we have..."Leprechaun suits shimmer Sensenbrennerly. Never regurgitate, orginate! Ideally, chutzpah feathers one's..." soul.
