Following our monster Miller update yesterday, we're going to pull back from the Judith Miller story a bit today, if for no other reason than the fact that everything's pure speculation at this point (not that that normally stops us or anyone else in this town...).
But here's the latest and what you need to know to make it through this day:
Judy testified for 75 minutes yesterday and apparently it was a bit tense.
Patrick Fitzgerald gave Judy the prosecutorial version of "You're Dead To Me" -- she's free to get back to work at the NYTimes without having to worry about being held in contempt-of-court.
So it is, then, that we should expect a piece from the NYTimes on the whole debacle sometime soon (our money is on Sunday). Sounds like NYT reporters will cover the story...but will Miller have her own piece/explanation as well?
Most sources close to the case concede that Fitzgerald has turned away from the original charges of knowingly disclosing the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame (too tough too prove) and is focusing instead in on conspiracy charges against various administration officials (namely Karl Rove and Scooter Libby).
Rove may again testify (for the fourth time) before the grand jury this week.
Nicolas Kristof was originally on the subpoena list.
And if you want the ultimate proof of how complete of a job the NYT is doing in keeping everyone's mouths shut (besides the complete--and completely shocking--silence of their editorial page and columnists), consider this: Even their former public editor--Daniel Okrent--is staying mum.
