Breitbart News’ Exclusive Source: Twitter

Rep. Steve King (R-IA) gave Breitbart News exclusive information yesterday, revealing the same things he exclusively told his 16,000 Twitter followers hours earlier.

20 brazen self professed illegal aliens have just invaded my DC office. Obama’s lawless order gives them de facto immunity from U.S. law.

— Steve King (@SteveKingIA) June 13, 2013

And here is what he “exclusively” said to Breitbart News sometime later (emphasis added), while his earlier tweet was on its way to being retweeted some 700 times and picked up (and almost universally mocked) by news outlets everywhere:

Rep. Steve King has told Breitbart News that illegal immigrants attempted to take over his Washington, DC office on Thursday. “They openly defy our laws,” Rep. King exclusively told Breitbart News. “It’s the most brazen lobbying I’ve seen since I entered Congress.”

We get that “exclusive” and “exclusively” are often a matter of interpretation for the writers and editors involved in a given story, usually hinging on just how much they think they can get away with. To their credit, Breitbart News was bold enough to not only claim exclusivity in that information, but to embed King’s tweet right in the middle of it all, too. That’s impressive.

While we’re at it, can we discuss journalists’ abuse of #BREAKING on Twitter, a medium that can’t even claim the lifespan of a fruitfly? This all still “breaking” — a day later:
