Christie, Not an Expert on Iran, Offers No Opinion On Iran

0627_chris_christieGovernor Chris Christie (Rish-NJ) showed remarkable restraint on Sunday by declining to offer an opinion on the collapse of the Iran nuclear talks -a subject which he knows nothing about. Pressed by both ABC’s George Stephanopoulos and CBS’s Norah O’Donnell to offer some opinion, no matter how ill-informed, on the delicate foreign policy issue having absolutely nothing to do with his current job, Christie explained:

“I’m a Governor of New Jersey, and I think there are a lot of people you could ask and probably will have on the program who are significantly better briefed on this than I am.  And I think when guys like me start to shoot off on opinions about this kind of stuff, it’s really ill-advised.  So I’ll leave it to Secretary Kerry and the folks that are in charge of this to make decisions about where we go.”

This is a break from past Presidential hopefuls, who have shown a willingness to spout off on just about any subject, regardless of how much they may or may not know about it. O’Donnell and Stephanopoulos were clearly flummoxed by Christie’s reasonable approach to being informed about things and quickly moved on to other subjects.

Christie also suggested that the national GOP might learn a thing or two from his re-election victory -namely how to win over Hispanics, black people, and women. It seems his strategy with said groups was quite simple -he, like, you know, tried a little:

“And showing up:  What I mean by that is you can’t just show up six months before an election and then groups, who have not normally voted for you and expect that they are going to vote for you.  I’ve been working on this for four years, going to places like Irvington, New Jersey, one of our cities were I got 4.7% of the vote four years ago…But you go there, you listen and you present your views and that’s the way you bring people into your movement.”
