Ex-NPR CEO Vivian Schiller in the Flesh

On Tuesday morning former NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller will lead a roundtable breakfast at Paley Center’s Media Council in Manhattan. The breakfasts happen regularly. The audience, comprised of council members, isn’t likely to press her on hard topics, but there aren’t hard and fast rules so she may face tough questions.

She faced a recent grilling at the National Press Club last month. That was two days before she resigned her post at NPR.

Carrie Oman, manager of public relations for the Council, said details on what Schiller will discuss over breakfast haven’t been revealed. Any of the 24 board members can attend, but it isn’t certain who will show up. Attendees could include anyone from Jeffrey Bewkes of Time Warner, Inc. and NYT Company Publisher and Chairman Arthur Sulzberger to Richard Cotton of NBC Universal. Max Robins, Vice President & Executive Director of Industry Programs for the Council, put the program together.

So why Schiller? No word on the recent contentious and scandalous circumstances around why she resigned, but in a release they list five graphs of her experience starting out with this: “A media executive and journalist with more than twenty years experience in the industry, Vivian Schiller was president and CEO of NPR from January 2009 to March 2011.”

UPDATE: The Council’s Max Robins got back to FishbowlDC. He said Schiller had an opportunity to decline but accepted the invitation to speak at the breakfast. “We had long planned to have Schiller speak here,” he told FishbowlDC. “She’s a member of our media council. We welcome her. I think she has a lot of ideas and things to say. We don’t predict what people are going to talk about. There are no ground rules. Course anybody has the right to say no comment or ‘I don’t have anything to say about that right now.’ Vivian is a very dynamic individual. We’re really looking forward to having her.”
