FP Takes Swipe at Just-Departed Josh Rogin

The claws are out.

In a display of what smells like grudge-holding for leaving the publication, Foreign Policy is taking a swing at Josh Rogin, who left just weeks ago for The Daily Beast. They don’t name him in the story, but they rip at a piece he wrote like it’s a mouse they’ve been tracking all day long.

As we’ve reported, Kevin Baron, a top reporter for FP just left for Atlantic‘s Defense One. And earlier this week FP lost its Editor-in-Chief Susan Glasser, who formally announced that she, too, was leaving. She fled to Politico.  The publication expects to name a new editor soon.

In the meantime, it’s Operation Attack Josh Rogin Full Speed Ahead.

Written by FP‘s Micah Zenko, here’s a taste of it.

Last week, the Daily Beast published an “exclusive” news story supported by comments from two anonymous administration officials: “Obama Asks Pentagon for Syria No-Fly Zone Plan.” The newsworthiness and hype surrounding such reporting was puzzling given that the military’s operational plans for a no-fly zone (NFZ) in Syria were completed many months ago and have been refined as new information has become available.

Read the full cat fight here. And the story they’re bashing… it’s by Rogin.

We’ve requested comment from Rogin and FP on the matter.

UPDATE: Rogin wasn’t fazed by any of it, and pointed out that the author is an outside contributor. “The guy is entitled to his opinions. They used to do that when I worked there too,” he told FishbowlDC. “FP always presents views from both sides and gets experts to comment on news. It’s a smart thing to do. Nothing new.”
