HOH’s “Recess” Finds Way to Bring Us Tiger

tiger-4.jpeg We love it when a Capitol Hill publication sounds more like Us Weekly than some of the dry reporting that can come out of politics.

Today Roll Call’s HOH gives us a One-Minute Recess that finds a way to connect the Tiger Woods sex scandal to prayers for President Obama. The group wants to prevent Obama from following in Tiger’s salacious footsteps. Wow, a stretch, it is. But a great one.

“Prayer at the Pump” Movement Founder Rocky Twyman and his prayer buddies will meet in Baltimore later this week to say prayers for Tiger in the heat of his sex scandal and for President Obama — who hasn’t cheated on his wife (God forbid) but who just might if he doesn’t “keep the faith.”

HOHÂ’s One-Minute Recess: Prayers for the President

The members of the “Pray at the Pump” movement are once again sending their prayers to President Barack Obama, this time asking that the commander in chief doesn’t pull a Tiger Woods-esque blunder.

Movement founder Rocky Twyman and his prayer warriors — who originally joined together to pray that gas prices decrease but have since focused their spiritual efforts on everything from the White House beer summit to Michael Jackson — are offering prayers of support for the sex scandal-embattled pro golfer. But they also will be praying for Obama, who Twyman said could wind up like Woods if he doesn’t keep the faith.

“He’s going to have to be careful, too, because he’s become like a sex symbol,” Twyman told HOH. “When you get in those positions like that, if you don’t have a strong spiritual holding, it’s hard to overcome.”
The prayer warriors plan to hold an “Emergency Christmas Prayer Vigil” for Woods at a church in Baltimore on Wednesday night. They also will offer prayers for other “celebrities who have lost their way,” including South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R), former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer, D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry, former Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) and actor Mel Gibson.

“We have to be really forgiving because all of us are human,” Twyman said.
