It’s the birthday of Alex Pareene and Michael Grass. So what if they’ve moved to New York. Don Imus, too. But more importantly, it’s the birthday of America’s second most beautiful woman: Stephanie Seymour.

Most of you liked Roll Call’s R.J. Matson‘s take on the New Yorker Cover. It’s a little bit scary that this picture was the most popular on Flickr yesterday. Need one of these? Potomac Flacks looks at “When Reporters Can Be Jerks!” The Chris Matthews Show features more “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” online now. Over at Radar, “Insiders reveal television’s most hated pundits.” Chris Matthews made the list! Over at Viva Chuck Todd, they asked, “What is the proper name for The Chuck’s facial hair?” Most of you said, “I would never be so presumptuous as to tell The Chuck what to call his facial hair.” Today’s “Angry Journalist” rant of the day: “I’m tired of having to compete against bloggers: People with no journalism training who put up information about breaking news on their Web site before we do–they don’t bother to verify if their facts are correct (THEY OFTEN AREN’T). We get breaking news on our site a few minutes later because we actually take the time to make sure we get our information correct, something the bloggers don’t do. Times editor David Shipley said that, as submitted, the essay did not meet the standards of the New York Times, and that he would be ‘happy to take another look’ at a new draft. Senator McCain’s camp later released the original essay as he attended a fund raiser and press conference with former President George H. Bush at the latter’s Kennebunkport home.”

  • DCist asks, “Could you please buy Mike DeBonis a little video camera? Nothing fancy, just a small handheld job that will produce web-quality moving images and sound? He’s got this really funny partycrashing post up that I’m totally envious of, but I want to see the actual dance moves of D.C. Council members, not just blurry, underexposed stills. Also, is that Vincent Gray wearing white jeans in the background there? That’s a pretty bold fashion choice for the chairman.”

  • CJR reports, “The Washington Post’s new publisher has no new ideas in a Portfolio profile”

  • NPR’s On The Media reports, “Katharine Weymouth took the post of publisher for The Washington Post during a difficult time. Layoffs, a shrinking news hole and drops in circulation have created a grim climate for The Post and newspapers in general. Weymouth explains why she still has hope for her paper and the industry.”

  • A NBC release announced, “According to Nielsen Media Research data, ‘NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams’ was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of July 14, 2008 in total viewers, A25-54, and homes.”

  • An ABC release announced, “For the week of July 14-18, ABC’s ‘World News with Charles Gibson’ averaged 7.21 million Total Viewers and a 1.8/8 among Adults 25-54. Only 20,000 Total Viewers separated ‘World News’ and NBC’s ‘Nightly News’ for the week. This marks the fourth consecutive week ABC has narrowed the Total Viewing gap with NBC, cutting the gap by 89% compared to the previous week.”

  • A release announced, “Veteran Washington, DC broadcaster Chris Core will headline WDCW-TV’s new weekly news program ‘Weekend News with Chris Core’ premiering Saturday, August 30th. The weekly news show will be broadcast Saturdays at 6PM, with a re-broadcast Sunday mornings at 9:30AM. The 30-minute program will provide news and analysis of both local and national events. The first two programs (8/30 and 9/6) will focus on the Democratic and Republican National Conventions as well as other local hot topics.”

  • The New York Daily News reports, “NBC News defends Obama coverage”

  • TVNewser’s Steve Krakauer reported yesterday afternoon, “At this hour, Sen. Barack Obama is holding a news conference in Jordan, which the cable news networks are carrying. But last night Newsbusters reported on NBC’s chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell who let loose some of her frustrations with the lack of access being given to reporters on the trip, specifically in Afghanistan and Iraq. Mitchell’s comments came during an appearance on Hardball with Chris Matthews.”

  • Politico’s Michael Calderone reports, “Hip hop star Nas heads to Fox’s Manhattan headquarters Wednesday at 2pm to deliver a petition with over 600,000 signatures calling on the network to ‘stop its racist smears against the Obamas and other Black Americans.’”

  • TVNewser’s Chris Ariens reports, “Schieffer, Russert To Receive Lifetime Achievement Honor”

  • Gawker reports, “Reuters Assassinates Barack Obama”

  • Romenesko has a Politico release that announced yesterday, “Politico and Real Clear Politics today announced a new experiment in political journalism: a joint blog covering House and Senate campaigns. The new blog — The Scorecard — will be produced by staff at both companies, and live simultaneously on both websites, www.politico.com and www.realclearpolitics.com. It will be written by Reid Wilson, a political writer for Real Clear Politics, and Josh Kraushaar, a political writer for Politico.”

  • CQ’s Eric Pfeiffer reports, “The Nation’s Ari Melber and Daily Kos’ Markos Moulitsas have won a battle against Time magazine and its reporter/columnist/blogger Joe Klein. Klein produced a story on last year’s Netroots Nation in which he described Hillary Clinton being booed at the event. Trouble is, Melber and Kos say Clinton wasn’t booed by the audience. Klein’s inaccurate description was included in a version of a story covering this year’s Netroots National event in Austin, Texas. Time initially rejected calls for a correction to Klein’s piece, leaving Kos understandably agitated”

  • AP reports, “XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc., which is seeking regulatory approval for an acquisition by rival Sirius Satellite Radio Inc., on Tuesday posted a smaller second-quarter loss as total new subscribers to the satellite radio company’s services rose 17 percent.”

  • The Hill reports, “Every day, Capitol Hill gets inundated with political news, so much so that it can’t possibly digest it all. Each morning, however, in the span of two minutes, political Washington gets a dose of the day’s affairs in a compact segment called ‘Power Breakfast.’ Created in October of last year, Todd Zwillich, 36, a freelance correspondent for Capitol News Connection (CNC), was asked to be at its helm for WAMU, a National Public Radio station. The segment is heard only in Washington.”
