Politico Loses Negrin to ABC News

Politico’s Matt Negrin is jumping from Rosslyn to Desales Street and the ABC News Washington bureau to be a digital political reporter.

He joins the network next week.

Negrin has a sweet and sour past. He began writing and ran for president of his elementary school in the seventh grade. He won the election with a candy-themed platform. He kept writing, but being a politician wasn’t in the cards. His bio says he “soured” on politics after nine months and vowed never to run for office again.

Congratulations to Negrin.

See the memo sent to staff earlier today…

I’m pleased to announce that MATT NEGRIN will be joining us starting next week. He will be a digital reporter, replacing the position that Devin Dwyer held until last summer when he moved to the White House team and covering the President’s 2012 campaign.

Matt comes to us from POLITICO where for the last two years he has served as editor and chief contributor to their “Politico44” blog, as well as reporting on longer form pieces. Recently, Matt spent time in Egypt on a reporting fellowship sponsored by GlobalPost.

Prior to joining POLITICO, Matt interned at the AP in Tokyo, The New York Times foreign desk, The Boston Globe, both in Boston and Washington, and The Hartford Courant. He was a Washington correspondent for the New Hampshire Union Leader during the spring of 2008 and a blogger at AOL’s now defunct PoliticsDaily.

Matt is a native of the Washington area and a cum laude graduate of Boston University, where he was the editor of the student-run independent newspaper there.

Please join me in welcoming Matt Negrin to the Washington bureau and ABC News Digital!
