POLITICO’s Kim Kingsley and CNN’s Dana Bash Named ELLE’s Most Powerful in DC

ellePOLITICO Chief Operating Officer Kim Kingsley and CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash were just named to ELLE’s 10 Most Powerful Women in DC list. Also named were Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI); Neera Tanden, president of the Center for American Progress; fmr. Deputy White House Counsel Cheryl Mills; Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME); Ilyse Hogue, president, NARAL Pro-Choice America; U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker; DC Chief of Police Cathy Lanier; and Capricia Marshall, Ambassador-in-Residence of the Atlantic Council. In the April issue and online now, these 10 power players “offer an inspiring look at what hard work, determination, and passion can still accomplish.”

“Always be direct; remember an idea is just an idea unless it’s implemented correctly; and never settle for pretty good—demand great,” said Kingsley, who spearheaded the launch of POLITICO’s Women Rule series (with Google and the Tory Burch Foundation) to recognize women leading change in politics, policy, and their communities.

“Early on,” she continued. “The men would have impromptu meetings behind closed doors to talk about the future of [Politico]. I always looked at those rooms and wanted a seat at the table. After a while, I just started opening the door, walking in, and sitting at the table.”

Bash, who’s been with CNN for 20 years, recalled her first taste of power, “When I was still a producer, after 9/11, I got a tip that the NSA had an al-Qaeda intercept on September 10 that said, ‘Tomorrow is zero hour,’ and they didn’t translate it [in time]. I put it on the air as breaking news and the White House went bananas—Dick Cheney in particular.”
