summersuperlatives(main)

Last week we announced nominees in FishbowlDC’s 2014 Summer Superlatives in three categories Hottest TV Personality, Most in Need of a Reality Show, and Future/Former Boy Band Members.

Before we announce Round 2 of 3, we’re here with an update of where things stand in the final 72 hours of the first round of the competition.

For much of last week, CNN’s Jake Tapper and Brianna Keilar were neck and neck for first place in the Hottest TV Personality category. FOX 5′s Steve Chenevey has since taken the top spot with 34.32% of the category votes. Also in the running: FOX News’ Bret Baier and NBC Washington’s Angie Goff and Eun Yang. One thing we’ve learned, it is fun to pit persons from the same network against each other.

New to the superlatives competition is this year’s Future/Former Boy Band Members category. Leading is The Hill’s Kevin Cirilli, previously with POLITICO, who has more than 50% of the votes. In second with nearly a quarter of the support is CNN cutie Peter Morris. Also nominated, NBC Washington’s David Culver, WJLA’s Kevin Lewis and Scott Thuman, and The Atlantic’s James Hamblin.

Rounding out Round 1 of voting is the ever-important superlative for Most in Need of a Reality Show. In it, there’s 6 great contenders, including POLITICO’s Big Money author Ken Vogel with nearly half the votes thus far. BuzzFeed’s John Stanton and ESPN’s Britt McHenry are in a close second and third, respectively, along with Pamela Sorensen, of Pamela’s Punch, the “Reliable Source” ladies Helena Andrews and Emily Heil, and the Washington Life magazine touting John Arundel.

Hey Isn’t That…NBC4′s Angie Goff on MSNBC’s ‘First Look’ ?

IMG_6413

This week, NBC4 weekend anchor Angie Goff has been filling in for her NBC colleagues on vacay on the sets of NBC’s “Early Today” and MSNBC’s “First Look.”

Looking hot as ever, check her out live from the Big Apple tomorrow before returning to the District this weekend to resume her reporting and anchoring duties with NBC Washington.

NBC4′s Angie Goff Sits Down with Lorena Bobbitt

Screen Shot 2014-04-30 at 00.27.32Hear the name Lorena Bobbitt and what’s the first thing you think of? Most remember her as the woman who attacked her husband with a knife. The case caught headlines nationally in the 90′s, but only some remember she was found not guilty.

In two recent segments, NBC Washington’s Angie Goff sat down with Bobbitt to discuss the night that changed her life and where she’s at now. The re-married mother of one lives in Gainesville, Va. where she works as a stylist and helps victims of domestic violence in Prince William County through her foundation Lorena’s Red Wagon.

NBC4′s Angie Goff and WJLA’s Alison Starling’s Youngest Celebrated at Sip & See

WJLA’s Rebecca Cooper, NBC4′s Angie Goff and Bob, NBC News’ Peter Alexander and Ava Starling, Alison Starling, Jill Collins

WJLA’s Rebecca Cooper and PR maven Jill Collins hosted a “Sip & See” at Carmine’s this past Saturday for WJLA anchor Alison Starling‘s newest baby, Ava Starling, and NBC4 anchor Angie Goff‘s baby, Robert (Bob) Ellis IV.

Guests included 30 TV women, anchors, and producers from all the local affiliates, plus Peter Alexander, NBC News White House Correspondent (and spouse of Alison Starling).

My first reaction upon being invited was “What on earth is a Sip & See?” Well, apparently, it’s a popular Southern tradition to introduce a little one to friends and colleagues while you sip on champagne. Given how much baby coverage I’ve been doing of late, if it weren’t hosted at Carmine’s, I’d likely have politely declined. But the promise of their famous meatballs -and the champagne of course – was too much to resist.

Here’s how it went down.

10:30am - Snoozughhhh, I have to go to that Sip & See! Seriously, how can I get out of this? Alas, as chief parenting reporter for FishbowlDC, I have duties.

1pm - Walk into Carmine’s, the legendary family style Italian resto hailing from New York, one hour late. #yolo

Angie Goff and Adora, Bloomberg TV’s Megan Hemmerlein

1:02 - Ohh wait…this was like a dressy affair, and I’m wearing flannel. #yolo

1:03 - Realization that other kids are here too. Should that have been expected? Again, anxiety setting in over the thought of having children. Where’s the champagne?

1:05 - Say hello to Angie Goff and meet Bob. Immediately ask where Bob’s sister Adora is. For those who don’t know, Adora is the star of #AdorasDay on Angie’s Instagram (@OhMyGoff), and in my eyes, a celebrity.

1:08 - Bump into Alison Starling. Awkwardly introduce myself as we’ve never met and I’m at her child’s Sip & See. Make sure she knows that I know Angie and not a younger version of Tareq Salahi.

1:11 - Objective for attending…Carmine’s meatballs. Seriously, the bomb. Contemplating asking for a to-go box. Is that rude?

1:13 - Formality begins. Alison’s husband, Peter Alexander, put on the spot and asked about the possibility of missing Ava’s birth because of having to cover President Obama’s historic Africa trip. He replies, “The consequences of not going on this historic trip with Alison were far greater.” Funny.

NBC “TODAY” Show host Savannah Guthrie was all smiles this morning as she revealed her engagement to political consultant Mike Feldman, setting off a flurry of reaction in Washington and beyond.
