“The Audacity of David Plouffe,” Starring Dana Milbank

We told you yesterday about WaPo’s Dana Milbank‘s shenanigans at the National Press Club after former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe unexpectedly declared his speech off-the-record. Milbank writes here, “It takes a certain amount of nerve to have an event at the National Press Club and then ban the press from covering it.”

Politico’s John Harris also backed out of moderating duties for the event yesterday that was sponsored by Politico in response. He says here, “We took down our signage that’s up over there at the Press Club and declined to participate in any way” and that Politico was not “in the business of sponsoring, or co-sponsoring, an off-the-record talk with a newsworthy person.”

FishbowlNY wonders “in this age of Twitter whether anything in a public sphere can really be considered off-the-record…”
