Late this afternoon, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association tweeted out a spectacular bit of news:
Media reaction is pouring in and so far it’s unanimously ecstatic. Anne Thompson cheers “Good call, HFPA!”; CELEBUZZ senior TV editor Jethro Nededog suggests that Dick Clark Productions, the HFPA and NBC all “deserve a standing ovation;” and TVLine’s Michael Ausiello and Kimberly Roots enthusiastically declare “we want to go there.”
In this evening’s official HFPA statement, organization president Paul Telegdy states that “having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year’s festivities is a major coup.” Which is actually true. Convincing these successful comediennes to step into the awards show trap can’t have been easy and probably ultimately came down to “I’ll do it if she does it.”
With Seth MacFarlane and these gals now set for the final leg of 2012 awards season, it could add up to some extremely memorable comedy moments.
