Mac Kay (reporter): These employees here at the lovely El Coyote, some of them have been here, quite frankly, longer than some of you at the desk have been alive. This man Billy, he has been here for over 30 years, you are the manager here, what is it like? It’s a total family atmosphere right?
Restaurant Manager: Right. That’s what keeps us all together, because it’s such a family, we know each other. We know their sons, their daughters, their parents, we go to their weddings, their baptismals, we share all our good times together…
Chris Schauble: …bond hearings…
“Schauble co-anchors a news show, not a satirical television program, and broadcasters, especially journalists, have a responsibility to serve the public,” said NHMC president Alex Nogales in a statement. “Chris Schauble made his remarks on air and must apologize on air as well.”
LAist points out that Schauble was demoted at NBC in 2010 for mouthing “WTF” while caught on camera.
This should have been addressed last week. Schauble is clearly in the wrong and he needs to apologize for his backhanded remark.
*Update – 06/19/12: It turns out Schauble did apologize directly to management of El Coyote restaurant, immediately following the June 11 broadcast. NHMC though is still calling for an on-air apology:
