In The Trades: Remakes, Retreads, Rewards

Remaking a Hong Kong movie paid off once, so Oscar-winning writer William Monahan will do it again, adapting Confessions of Pain for Warners. Leonardo DiCaprio will star and produce under his Appian Way company.

The CW offers Hell on Earth as a pilot from CBS Paramount. A mean girl gets hit by a bus, goes to purgatory and is given a second chance but this time on the wrong side of the tracks. From the team that gave us The Shaggy Dog and Raising Helen, who haven’t had an original thought in their entire lives.

Nickelodeon Movies continues the trend with Unicorn, a family comedy centers on a man who wakes up with a unicorn in his apartment. And a horn in his ass.

Jeffrey Immel, chairman and chief executive of General Electric, parent company of NBC Universal, received $15.2 million in compensation last year, and Bob Wright, who until recently headed NBC Universal, received more than $15.6 million in compensation. The company had an excellent year, according to the compensation committee as quoted in a proxy statement.

Univision will pay $24 million in fines to settle complaints over children’s programming. A group of investors, led by Haim Saban offered $12.3 billion for the network. So, instead of continuing to argue that soap operas in Spanish are, too, educational, the fines will be paid.
