John Corrigan to Lead LA Times A&E Coverage

The Los Angeles Times announced Wednesday that John Corrigan will succeed Sallie Hofmeister as the assistant managing editor for arts & entertainment.

Corrigan has been at the LAT since 1999 and was most recently the business editor.

“John brings a wealth of experience and energy to his new role,” said editor in chief Davan Maharaj in a memo. “As Business editor, he led a team of reporters and editors in making our financial report a model:  a combination of elegant features, hard-hitting investigative stories, and quick-hit breaking news on our blogs.”

Also announced Wednesday was the hire of former LA Weekly editor-in-chief Laurie Ochoa as the A&E editor.

Ochoa spent a decade at the LAT, splitting her time as a writer for the Calendar section and editor of the Food section. Following a stint as executive editor of Gourmet magazine, Ochoa was the EIC of the LA Weekly and recently filled in for Janice Min at The Hollywood Reporter during her maternity leave.

Ochoa is replacing Craig Turner, who left the paper in March.

Lastly, television critic Mary McNamara was promoted to senior culture editor. The 21-year vet of the LAT will continue to do television criticism.
