“You know who is going to get her seat now? Elijah,” offers Jon Stewart.

Stewart is right. This whole thing with the legendary Helen Thomas is depressing. She was a pioneer. She sat in that press briefing room through ten presidents. Ten. And she was also totally outspoken about the Bush Administration and the never-ending wars it started. For her to go down in an Israel gaff seems…lame.

In case you’re wondering Stephen Colbert didn’t mention Thomas’ retiring last night. Even though, as some of you will remember, in 2006, she was stalking him.
