There’s a whole lot going on at Occupy Los Angeles beyond mainstream media coverage points such as yesterday’s Westwood-Wilshire standoff and the possibility of downtown eviction. For FishbowlLA’s Federal Reserve-backed tender, one of the best ways to keep up with the historic on-the-ground developments are the daily video dispatches of Margot Paez.

Just this week, under her great moniker “Insight Out News,” Paez and crew have captured a surprise drop-in visit from Bill Maher, another appearance by the Reverend Jesse Jackson and more. Her reports are long, but that’s another advantage of running your own broadcast operation; there’s no media-money exec(s) telling a reporter what to cut:

Paez’s clean, crisp, well-produced reports are a most inspiring reflection of all that is good about Occupy LA. At the top of her interview with Maher, the Real Time host pointed out–as he so often, so clearly does–that part of the problem here is that what the Wall Street bankers did was all completely “legal.”

FishbowlLA checked in with the 27-year-old Paez via email to find out more about her intrepid background. “I have been a journalist since I was 16-years-old, when I ran my own online entertainment magazine,” she explains. “I have been a guest editor for a print magazine called Animal Fair and have written about art and music for various magazines and blogs. I also covered student news for the largest student newspaper in Europe, The London Student, when I was in graduate school. This is my first foray in broadcast journalism, however.”
