Iron Man 3 co-star Gwyneth Paltrow was crowned by People magazine as the “World’s Most Beautiful Woman” just ahead of last night’s big splashy El Capitan Theatre premiere. In this red carpet photo, she is firmly in the clutches of  the person we think owns the “Coolest Person on the Planet” honors.

On the Block Next Week at Julien’s: DiCaprio’s Audition for The Outsiders

This is really intriguing. As part of its next “Hollywood Legends” event April 5-6, Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills will be for the first time selling some slices of videotaped Hollywood casting history. With all sorts of big names in the mix:

Tapes include Leonardo DiCaprio’s audition for the role of Ponyboy in The Outsiders; Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr., Keanu Reeves and Dermot Mulroney for Backdraft; Sandra Bullock, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julianne Moore, Helen Hunt and others for roles in Jurassic Park; David Arquette, Adrien Brody, Noah Wylie, Ben Affleck and Lisa Kudrow auditioning with Ellen DeGeneres for Mr. Wrong; Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Patrick Dempsey and others for A Beautiful Mind; and more.

Hollywood’s Favorite Diner Gets Another Web Shout Out

In the summer of 2010, LA freelance video editor Matthew Freund put together a mash-up of the many different film and TV scenes shot at downtown LA’s Quality Cafe. The piece got some nice pick-up at Gawker, Huffington Post and elsewhere, educating a legion of readers about just how ubiquitous this shooting location had become.

A cracked.com contributor decided it was time for a refresher this past Friday and judging by the millions of page views registered for “6 Places You’ll Recognize from the Background of Every Movie,” it was a good call. The West 7th Street establishment once doubled as both a diner and shooting location, but in recent years it has been used exclusively for filming. It ranks sixth on the Cracked countdown of all-purpose filming locales, followed by Vasquez Rocks and more.

Matt Donnelly Exits LAT’s Ministry of Gossip

The beat will remain pretty much the same for entertainment journalist Matt Donnelly. But the Web traffic will be much larger, the reader comments harsher and there will now be, with any story, the walk-down-the-hall option of a synergistic TV appearance.

The Ministry of Gossip celebrity blogger got the official sendoff last night from boss Christie D’Zurilla and other LA Times colleagues, who all wished him the best of luck with new employers Yahoo! omg! and omg! Insider. The re-branded, cross-platform version of syndicated entertainment TV news magazine The Insider officially debuts January 7.

Tucson Shooting Victims Include Relatives of Sophia Bush, Gwyneth Paltrow

Hollywood actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Sophia Bush are both related to victims of the tragic shooting spree in Arizona on Saturday.

Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old girl killed in the rampage, is the 2nd cousin of Sophia Bush. Bush issued a public expression of her grief via Twitter on Sunday:

Gabrielle Giffords, the congresswoman shot in the head during the incident, is a relative of Gwyneth Paltrow. Giffords’ father and Paltrow’s father are first cousins. Paltrow released a statement following the tragedy:

Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting congresswoman Giffords, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as well as the other victims of this horrible act of senseless violence.

Dina Lohan Threatens Glee With Legal Action

Dina Lohan is seriously pissed about Tuesday night’s episode of Glee. The episode featured guest star Gwyneth Paltrow as a substitute Spanish teacher who poked fun at Lindsay Lohan as part of her lesson plan. “Lindsay Lohan is totally crazy, right?” she asked her student en español, and “How many times has Lindsay been in rehab?” (the answer is cinco).

Dina told website Gossip Cop that her lawyers are sending a letter to Glee about the, uh, defamation. And then a rep added some self-righteous drivel about how addiction is no laughing matter, or some such nonsense.

As Dodai Stewart of Jezebel noted, she might as well try to sue the entire internet.

Now if Dina wants to sue Glee over the show’s G-rated, gutless cover of Cee Lo Green‘s “Fuck You,” we are behind her all the way. Oh Cee Lo. How could you let this happen?

Phoenix Says It Again — I’m Leaving Movies For Music

Joaquin Phoenix, if anyone didn’t hear him the first time, is making it clear that he’s had enough of the film bizphoenix3.jpg
.

The Oscar-winning star of such films as “Gladiator,” “To Die For” and “Walk the Line” told Associated Press (this after, dumping it all on Extra last week) that he’s out and he’s in with music. He said he wants to use the musical aptitude he developed while learning to be Johnny Cash.

Phoenix will last be seen in “Two Lovers” opposite Gwyneth Paltrow.

Don Cheadle Will Take Over For Terrence Howard In ‘Iron Man 2′

Don Cheadle doncheadle.jpglooks like he’ll be filling in for Terrence Howard as the second banana in “Iron Man 2,” according to news reports.

Cheadle will step in to play Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark’s best friend who would also become the armor-clad hero War Machine.

Although there was no comment from Marvel Studios, The Hollywood Reporter says that sources close to the deal reported the negotiations fell through with Howard over financial differences, among other things.

The character of Rhodes is expected to play a larger part in “Iron Man 2.”

Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay with Jon Favreau to return as director and Robert Downey Jr. to step in again as Stark/Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow also is expected to be back as Stark’s assistant, Pepper Potts.
