Congress Passes West Coast Shark Bill…Pun…Pun…Pun, Pun – PUN!

The popularity of shark fin soup in Asia has led to a horrid practice of catching sharks, cutting off their fins and throwing them back in the water. The House and Senate both passed a bill that makes it illegal to transport shark fins without the bodies attached.

And just in case you’re curious – Senators from land locked states like chum seeker Sen. Tom Coburn from Oklahoma tried to block its passage.

Anyway, now we are left with a WaPo piece packed full of punny:

Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), the bill’s author, in a statement. “Finally we’ve come through with a tough approach to tackle this serious threat to our marine life.”

And

“The bill was snatched from the jaws of defeat,” said Matt Rand, who directs global shark conservation at the Pew Environment Group.

We think this legislation has a lot of teeth…
