Daily News Uncovers Story of Ted Williams’ Ex-Wife

Joanna Molloy at the Daily News has a piece on Patricia Kirtley, the ex-wife of media darling Ted Williams, in today’s paper. Kirtley’s tale is one that has been glossed over, but it’s one that should be told if we’re all going to celebrate Williams as much as we have.

23 years ago Williams abandoned Kirtley and their four young daughters when he got caught up in the addictive world of drugs and alcohol. Kirtley, who is partially blind, then raised the girls, and another son Williams had with a different woman, mostly by herself. She tells Molloy that her sisters and mother helped in any way they could, including driving her and her kids places because Kirtley isn’t allowed to drive.

Williams has apparently turned his life around now, and we’re not trying to take anything away from that. But Kirtley’s story is one worth knowing. It reminds FishbowlNY that just because a story is the biggest, it doesn’t mean it’s the best.
