FiveThirtyEight Partners With The New York Times
Statistics-crazy poll-analysis operation FiveThirtyEight is teaming up with New York newspaper The New York Times, both outlets announced today. FishbowlNY sister site WebNewser has the details, but here too is FiveThirtyEight editor Nate Silver‘s take:
[T]he Times’ unflinching commitment to quality journalism makes for a natural fit, and I expect that the relationship will evolve in exciting ways as FiveThirtyEight is incorporated into a “traditional” newsroom setting. On the other hand, the terrific work of their graphic and interactive journalists was a major draw. The new blog should look and feel great, and should be substantially more robust and feature-rich than the simple, one-page design that we have now.
The Times recently revamped its “Politics” homepage, adding a border of red-white-and-blue infographics to its stream of stories. FiveThirtyEight’s design should gel nicely with the new look. Other relevant info:
• Silver will be writing stories for the Times‘ print edition and the Sunday NYT Magazine.
• The deal will last three years.
• FiveThirtyEight.com will redirect to the Times‘ politics section.
• The new Times/FiveThirtyEight site should be operational in early August, Silver says.
