Socialite and busy magazine intern and contributor Amanda Hearst has been named associate market editor at Marie Claire, where she will report to “Project Runway” staple Nina Garcia, the magazine’s fashion director.
Also reporting to Garcia will be Taylor Tomasi, who has been named style and accessories director, Marie Claire‘s editor-in-chief Joanna Coles announced yesterday. The two will start in their newly created roles on Monday.
And in addition to being an heir to the Hearst fortune, Amanda Hearst has been keeping busy and involved in publishing through internships, like her most recent at Cosmopolitan Spain, “where she helped research and contribute to articles exclusively in the Spanish language,” the company said. We have to admit, she sounds very multi-talented and qualified for the position. But we’re allowed to be jealous that she’s snagged a coveted spot at a family-owned magazine in the midst of the worst job market in recent history, right?

MARIE CLAIRE MAGAZINE ANNOUNCES FASHION DEPARTMENT HIRES
NEW YORK, NY (August 18, 2009) — Taylor Tomasi and Amanda Hearst have joined the editorial team at Marie Claire magazine, today announced Joanna Coles, the magazine’s editor-in-chief. Tomasi will assume the role of style and accessories director, and Amanda Hearst has been named associate market editor. Both start in their newly created roles on August 24 and will report directly to Nina Garcia, Marie Claire’s fashion director.
As style and accessories director, Tomasi will oversee the accessories department, handle fashion features, contribute to front-of-book stories, and style photo shoots. Prior to joining Marie Claire, Tomasi was accessories director at Teen Vogue, where she worked closely with stylists and top designers from around the globe to create new trends for photo shoots and story ideas for the magazine. She got her start as an accessories assistant at W magazine, which led to a full-time position as fashion market editor, during which she managed the American and London fashion markets.
In her new appointment as associate market editor, Hearst will be attending fashion shows, meeting with designers, and handling market-specific requests. She most recently interned for Cosmopolitan Spain, where she helped research and contribute to articles exclusively in the Spanish language. She gained previous experience from Town & Country, Harper’s Bazaar, Gotham, Quest, and Hamptons Magazine where she interned and contributed to the editorial team. Hearst serves as a board member and founder of the Junior Council of the non profit organization Riverkeeper, which focuses on the preservation of New York City’s surrounding bodies of water.
“We’re thrilled to have both Taylor and Amanda join the Marie Claire fashion department,” said Coles. “Their great sense of style, as well as their knowledge and experience in the fashion industry, will be an asset to the magazine.”
