It’s goodbye New York Times, hello HuffPost for Timothy L. O’BrienThe Huffington Post announced today that O’Brien will be leaving his role as editor of the Times Sunday Business section to become national editor at their site.  Arianna Huffington is thrilled to add O’Brien to her team and has high hopes for his future at HuffPost:

He’s a world-class editor with a proven ability to bring out the best in the writers he works with, producing engaging, high-impact stories.  His demonstrated ability to lead a team of journalists and his dedication to holding powerful institutions to account make him an ideal fit for The Huffington Post.

As national editor O’Brien will supervise the site’s political and cultural writing team and will contribute to business coverage alongside executive business editor Peter S. Goodman.  O’Brien will also write general features and columns for HuffPost.  He had managed the Sunday Business section at the Times since 2006 and oversaw the paper’s acclaimed series, “The Reckoning,” which offered an in-depth analysis of the 2008 financial crisis.  Prior to his stint at the Times, O’Brien worked for The Wall Street Journal, Talk, and National Geographic.
