Martha Stewart Wants Gwyneth Paltrow to ‘Be Quiet’

Shutterstock_MarthaStewartMartha Stewart has had it with Gwyneth Paltrow. In an interview with Porter magazine, Stewart sniped that no one can be her except her.

“She just needs to be quiet,” said Stewart. “She’s a movie star. If she were confident in her acting, she wouldn’t be trying to be Martha Stewart.” Oh daaaaaaammmmmmnnnn.

This isn’t the first time Stewart has taken issue with what she perceives as actresses attempting to be like her. Regarding Blake Lively’s weird-as-hell lifestyle site Preserve, Stewart said “Why would you want to be me if you could be an actress?”

If Stewart willingly attacks Paltrow and Lively, is any female actress safe from her wrath? We highly doubt it.

Martha Stewart Blogs About Her Drone

Think of this as Google Earth with a Martha Stewart twist.

As noted this morning by the Observer‘s Sage Lazzaro, Stewart shared several dozen pictures of her stunning Bedford, New York farm compound shot from the air with a DJI Phantom drone flying camera. The apparatus was recently purchased by one of her security staff, Dominic Arena.

The above shot is Photo #13. Along with the Winter house where Stewart lives and the Tenant House where her daughter stays, there is also this stable.

Pat Kiernan Finds His Radio Co-Host

RitaCosbyHeadshotAfter launching The Ride Home in January, Pat Kiernan says he and his 77 WABC Radio producers had many discussions about the right person to bring on as co-host. Today, that person has been officially declared.

Brooklyn native and Emmy winner Rita Cosby will join the 5-6 p.m. weekday program beginning this Wednesday. From today’s announcement:

“I am so delighted to join my friend and NY1 icon Pat Kiernan along with the rest of the 77 WABC family,” said Cosby. “While I’ve been fortunate to cover the biggest national and international stories for years, there’s nothing better than covering stories that touch the very cornerstone of my own neighborhood and place of birth, New York City.”

Seth Meyers Has a Newfound Appreciation for Pockets

NPRFreshAirLogoThe Web headline for today’s NPR Fresh Air interview with Seth Meyers is a good example of click-baiting with integrity. Because listening to the conversation titled “Seth Meyers’ Late Night Challenge: What To Do With His Hands?” does indeed address and answer one of the first bits of self-conscious business for the incoming talk show host:

“The trickiest part of this job the first week was just figuring out what to do with my hands. I think one of the great discoveries I made at the show was the memory of pockets. I was like, ‘OK, I can put one of these away.’”

“I as a person in conversation tend to use my hands a great deal and I think my first couple of monologues I looked like someone on a desert island trying to signal for a passing plane.”

Danny Seo Magazine Contract Stipulates: He Will Not Be on the Cover

DannySeoPicGreen movement champion (a.k.a. “environmental lifestyle expert”) Danny Seo is our new, newsstand hero.

Per a report by Keith J. Kelly, Seo has a new magazine in the works, with the initial issue set for July. But unlike the Martha Stewart‘s and Oprah Winfrey‘s of this niche world, his monthly publication comes with a newsstand-environment-friendly caveat:

“I contractually said I will not be on the cover,” Seo told Media Ink. Seo expects to do split covers on the first issue. One will likely feature a still-life shot of a dairy-free “vegan ice cream,” the other will likely feature actress Ali Larter, the former Heroes star who is cast in a new TNT drama, Legends.

Let’s Make Fun of Media Elite’s First Tweets

Twitter has launched a great site — first-tweet.com — that will embarrass any user. Naturally we thought this would be a great opportunity to make fun of some media elite.

First-tweet is self-explanatory — it allows you to see any public users’ first tweet. Most of them are boring, but some — like the ones below — are worth pointing out. Oh, and in case you’re wondering — your FishbowlNY editors’ first tweets were fantastic.

An Afternoon Dishing With Martha Stewart

martha-stewartFishbowlNY visited Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s test kitchen on the West Side Thursday afternoon to make chicken pot pies with Martha Stewart herself — and dish about, among other things, Season 3 of her PBS show Martha Stewart’s Cooking School, which premiered earlier this month (and will be exclusively sponsored by KitchenAid). A small group of journos and bloggers donned stylish striped aprons while listening intently to the domestic diva’s tips on stewing a whole chicken, combining it with buttery potatoes, carrots, onions, mushrooms, peas, thyme and cognac, and then layering an egg-wash-glazed puff pastry over the mixture-filled ramekins before popping them into the oven. Voilà. All the while, Stewart happily answered questions we peppered her with. Here are some of the tidbits we learned:

PBS keeps her busy. In addition to her Cooking School, Stewart is filming the third season of her other PBS show, Martha Bakes, and has just wrapped four shows in two days. She brought in the breakfast cookies she made on the show for us to nibble on while we waited for our pies to finish baking. “They’re about a pound each!” she said. No kidding. And delicious, we might add.

She gives credit where credit is due. Her test kitchen whips up around 1,000 recipes a year for the Martha Stewart Living magazines — and she credits her food editors, almost all of whom have been with her “for years,” with coming up with many of the inspired meals.

She wants to open a restaurant. “It’s so hard that life [as a restaurateur], but so fun,” she said. And the pot-pie recipe she shared that afternoon would be “the perfect lunch item.”

She likes football. Stewart isn’t cooking a Super Bowl meal — “I’m going to the Super Bowl!” she exclaimed. But if she were to prep something for game day, quesadillas and margaritas with “fresh lime juice and good tequila in sugar-rimmed glasses” would be on the menu.

More from Martha and photos from the event, after the jump.

Martha Stewart Living Publisher, Managing Editor, Among MSLO Fired Staff

305px-Martha_Stewart_Living_Omnimedia_Logo.svgMartha Stewart Living’s publisher and managing editor were among those fired during Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s massive firing spree. Yesterday Martha Stewart was feeling in the holiday spirit, so she, along with MSLO’s CEO, Daniel Dienstgave 100 staffers a DIY project — find a new job.

The New York Post reports that among the cuts were Martha Stewart Living’s Peter Medwid (publisher) and Carl Germann (managing editor); Laura Petasnick, VP of integrated sales; Daniel Taitz, executive VP and chief administrative officer; and Jess Hollander, head of digital sales.

The firings come amid grumblings that Stewart isn’t doing anything to help the struggling company.

Just last year, Stewart received over $1 million in reimbursements from MSLO for things like personal assistant costs, security and a weekend driver. “She still runs the company as if it was the 1990s,” one former MSLO staffer told the Post.

Martha Stewart Axed 100 Staffers (NY Post)
The ax started swinging early Thursday morning as home-entertainment diva Martha Stewart fired about 100 people from her namesake company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. It is the first major move since scrap-metal executive Daniel Dienst was tapped to be the new CEO in late October, sparking speculation — now realized — about major cutbacks. NY Post / Media Ink The layoffs, coming only a week and a half before Christmas, unnerved employees, many of whom left in tears, carrying their belongings in Martha Stewart bags. Stewart spent last week in Miami at Art Basel, the winter playground of the beautiful people, where dozens of private jets landed to party and peruse the international art market. FishbowlNY The downsizing will impact about 25 percent of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s workforce. So if you work there, and were planning on getting Dienst or Stewart a present, perhaps a better idea would be donating money in their names to The Human Fund. WSJ The job cuts follow years of weak financial performance at the company, which has lost money in all but one year of the past 10 due to declines in its TV business and print magazine ad revenue. One person familiar with the layoffs said they were made to bring the company more in line with its current revenues, which have declined sharply in recent years. Adweek One Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia staffer described the current office atmosphere as “really awful,” adding, “It’s really scary and terrible right before the holidays.”
