Media Goes Gaga for Rihanna

It’s hard to tell from the byline, but Quinn Keaney is in fact a woman. As such, the headline and sub-headline for her MTV.com item about Rihanna’s bares-nearly-all Esquire UK spread may turn out to be the unisex one to beat.

MTVRihannaEsquire

Out of the gate, Keaney has plenty of male, female, straight and gay company when it comes to praising the pics, which were also teased by the singer via Instagram. Perez Hilton ends his headline with “…This Is The Best Day Ever!” The Huffington Post Canada closes out their third paragraph with – (We understand if you have to take a cold shower now. We’ll wait.) And HipHollywood declares that “hell, you can almost see her areola … TWICE!”

Lena Dunham Makes Like a Statue

The headlines rolling out of the online preview of this weekend’s New York Times Magazine “Culture Issue” cover story by Meghan Daum have been pun-tastic. Perez Hilton thinks the Girls star is “Totally STONED,” while Refinery29 contributor Lauren Le Vine notes that Dunham got “Busted.”

The New York Times has a more civilized way of describing this weekend’s cover. Most of the credit for this one belongs to the publication’s design director:

Jake Silverstein, the magazine’s editor, wanted to evoke classical art. The magazine’s design director, Gail Bichler, suggested turning Dunham into a sculpture, and Joanna Milter, deputy photo editor, had an idea for the artist to take that on: Victoria Diehl, a Spanish photographer who creates haunting hybrids of flesh and stone by melding images of human models and classical marble statues.

Glamour Follows Katie Holmes with Olivia Wilde

One sure sign of an effectively presented women’s magazine cover story is to find people still talking and-or writing about it four weeks later. Score one in that department for Glamour‘s August 2014 issue.

KatieHolmesGlamour

The magazine went with three different covers of Katie Holmes, including the strategically topless shot above. The actress told E!’s Marc Malkin this weekend that the photo “wasn’t about being sexy. It was about being a woman.”

Howard Stern Calls In to Jenny McCarthy’s SiriusXM Debut

With Perez Hilton sitting in-studio as Jenny McCarthy‘s guest, Howard Stern called in from the car to help kick-start the first edition of her new program Dirty, Sexy, Funny. Fyi, the audio below is Not Safe for Work.

Stern loves to give others wise ratings advice. Off the top, he told McCarthy that instead of debating whether every man is a “little bit gay,” she should be talking about her days with Jim Carrey.

Maria Menounos Serves Up a Big Fat Reality Show

We are longtime fans of Extra co-host Maria Menounos. When Rod Aissa, senior vice president of original programming at Oxygen Media, says in today’s release that she is “ambitious, unconventional and incredibly funny,” he’s right. Especially about the funny part.

Menounos, previously via Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show and other interviews, has relayed her fondness for throwing herself extravagant annual birthday parties. That’s the focus of the debut episode of Chasing Maria Menounos, set for March 18:

Maria goes all out with a luau-themed [June 8, 2013] party that includes a star-studded roster of friends such as Dancing with the Stars dancer Derek Hough, Perez Hilton and Khloe Kardashian. Maria’s 35th birthday takes on a big significance; what starts out as a party becomes about facing down the realities of getting older and leads Maria to rethink the way she wants to live her life. Luckily for her, she can do it with comedic flair.

Perez Hilton to Star in Gay Dads of New York

The kinder, gentler Perez Hilton era is going into overdrive.

BunimMurrayLogoPer a Bunim/Murray Productions announcement today, the original Internet gossip king is developing a reality show titled Gay Dads of New York. No word yet on who else, if any, other celebrities might be featured. Hilton so far is the marquee name:

Set in New York City, the reality docu-series will follow Hilton, who recently became a single father, and a group of gay dads, single and married, as they support each other through the ups and downs of raising children.

“Up until now, people know me more for my opinions than who I am,” says Hilton. “This show will give viewers the opportunity to get to know the ‘real’ Perez Hilton and my family, as well as some other really dynamic gay dads, and the women that make up their support system. I am a recent transplant to New York City, looking for friends and open to – hopefully – love. To new beginnings and this exciting new venture!”

Perez Hilton Needs a New PR Rep

It sounds like the unnamed rep for Perez Hilton quoted in today’s New York Daily News @Confidential item is completely out of touch.

Ahead of Hilton’s August 16 NYC visit and media round, the rep told the paper that the gossip writer credits every Internet source that he borrows from. This despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.

Even more disappointing, given the genesis of Hilton’s blogging career, is the suggestion that @Confidential’s interview request was turned down because the columnists would not guarantee a “favorable” article:

“What’s the angle?” his spokesman asked. “He’s moving to New York City for a few months, he LOVES it there. I just want to make sure the article is going to be a favorable article :)

While we didn’t promise favorable coverage, we did say we would be “fair.” Perez’s rep replied with, “that’s a pass.”

Perez Hilton Is a Dad

Who would have expected this a few years ago, when he was posting crotch shots of a then-teenage Miley Cyrus‘ on his site? Perez Hilton is a daddy.

Writes Hilton on his site:

I am ready to announce that earlier this month I was blessed with the birth of my first child, a beautiful and healthy baby boy – with lots of hair on his tiny head!

My family is overjoyed at this newest and most cherished addition.

Hilton told the LA Times a few years ago he wanted to have a child by the age of 35. Today’s announcement made no mention of his son’s surrogate mother or if he plans to raise the child alone.

Wacky Tabloid Weekly World News Turns to LA Paywall Firm

Remember the Weekly World News, that black-and-white broadsheet next to the supermarket checkout that you used to scan regularly before Perez Hilton, TMZ and Radar Online?

Though it was interrupted by a more recent ownership change, it never fully went away. WWN migrated to the Web only in 2009 and has since slowly doubled its monthly way to a current Top 1,000 Quantcast ranking. However, as we all well know by now, Web traffic does not translate into similar-size bank deposits, so the publication has turned to MediaPass, an LA company specializing in paywall solutions, to help monetize the clicks. From tomorrow’s official announcement:

“We are excited to have a brand like the Weekly World News choose MediaPass to distribute their content in a way that will help them instantly generate revenue, but is also fair to their readers and makes sense within the current paradigm of online publishing and sharing,” said MediaPass CEO Matthew Mitchell. “As a digital-only publication now employing our paywall, there’s no reason they can’t generate the kind of revenue they did at the peak of their print existence…”
