EatingWell Names New Editor, Parade Media Hires Two

A few Revolving Door items for you to note:

  • EatingWell has promoted Jessie Price to editor-in-chief. Price has been with the magazine since 2003, when she was testing recipes. The next year she joined its editorial staff as an assistant food editor. Price most recently served as deputy editor of food. She will report to Tom Witschi, executive VP/president of  Meredith Women’s Lifestyle Group.
  • Parade Media Group has added Nathan Kania as VP of digital sales and Hilary Pereira as director of integrated solutions. Kania comes to Parade from Amazon, where he served as sales lead in the site’s Financial Services Sector. Pereira had been serving as Parade’s director of integrated solutions on a contract basis for the past four months. Prior to that she worked at Time Warner and Time Inc.

Alison Adler Matz Named Publisher of More, Steven Grune Publisher of Allrecipes

Meredith has named two new publishers today. Alison Adler Matz has been named publisher of More magazine and Steven Grune has been named publisher of Allrecipes magazine.

Matz comes to Meredith from Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, where most recently she served as senior VP, strategic brand sales. Matz was also publisher of Everyday Food and Whole Living. Grune was most recently VP/group publisher at Bonnier Corporation. Prior to his time at Bonnier, Grune spent almost a decade with Hearst Corporation, where he served as VP/publisher of Country Living.

“Steve and Alison are both well respected leaders in the industry who understand the critical importance of creating multi-channel brands,” said Tom Witschi, executive VP of Meredith Women’s Lifestyle Group, in a statement. “We are thrilled to have such strong and experienced individuals to lead these brands.”

Meredith Makes Four Big Promotions

Meredith Corporation has made a few fairly big promotions today. Below are the details.

  • Christine Guilfoyle has been promoted to VP/group publisher, overseeing Allrecipes, Every Day with Rachael Ray, and EatingWell. She reports to Tom Witschi, the executive VP/president of Meredith Women’s Lifestyle Group.
  • Linda Fears has tacked VP onto her role as editor-in-chief of Family Circle. Fears has been the editor of the magazine for the past eight years. Fears will also continue as editorial director of Meredith’s Food Content Center of Excellence. Fears continues to report to Jim Carr, executive VP and President of Family Circle.
  • Cheryl Brown has been named editor-in-chief of Allrecipes magazine. Brown most recently served as editorial director of Recipe.com. Brown will report to Fears.
  • Britta Cleveland has been promoted to senior VP, research solutions. Cleveland has been with Meredith in 2004, most recently serving as VP, research solutions. She continues to report to Nancy Weber, executive VP/CMO.

Meredith Names EveryDay with Rachael Ray Editor-in-Chief

Meredith has named Lauren Purcell the new Editor-in-Chief of EverDay with Rachael Ray. Purcell comes to the magazine from Self, where she most recently worked as its Executive Editor. She will report to Linda Fears, Editorial Director of Meredith Food Content, and the Editor-in-Chief of Family Circle.

“Lauren brings an intimate knowledge of American women’s lifestyle, food, and entertaining interests, and a vision and understanding on how to reach them across multiple platforms,” said Tom Witschi, Executive Vice President, National Media Group. “We are confident that Lauren will further expand the magazine’s leadership and voice in the marketplace.”

Purcell’s first day is January 9.

Meredith Completes Acquisition of Every Day With Rachael Ray

Meredith Corporation and Reader’s Digest Association have completed the agreement for Meredith to acquire Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine and its related digital assets.  In addition, Meredith announced it has finalized a 10-year licensing agreement with Watch Entertainment Inc. for the award-winning brand.

The acquisition includes the popular magazine that’s published 10 times annually with a 7.4 million audience.  The first issue of Every Day with Rachael Ray published under the Meredith banner will be February 2012, available on newsstands in early January.

“We are energized to bring the Every Day with Rachael Ray brand to market as part of the Meredith portfolio,” said Meredith National Media Group President Tom Harty.  “It represents a very important piece of the strategy we are executing to significantly enhance our already powerful reach in the food space.”

Fitness Names New Publisher

Meredith Corporation has promoted Eric Schwarzkopf to Publisher of Fitness magazine. Schwarzkopf had been Associate Publisher of Fitness since 2009. He will report to Tom Witschi, Executive Vice President, Meredith National Media Group.

Under Schwarzkopf, Fitness has expanded its ad pages and revenue. Tom Harty, President of Meredith National Media Group, said of the move, “Eric has proven to be an invaluable asset to the Fitness team since joining the brand.”
