Tina Brown Hints At Ongoing Newsweek Talks

To commemorate the second anniversary of The Daily Beast (Has it been two years already? I remember when it was just a wee bitty beastling..), the site’s founder, Tina Brown, answered a few questions. Of particular interest to us was her response to a question about the ongoing rumors of a deal with Newsweek.

You’ll recall that, in August, we reported that Brown was in talks with Newsweek to be the troubled weekly magazine’s new editor in chief. The problem was that taking the position would mean that Brown would be breaking her contract with IAC, the Beast’s parent company. At the time, Brown made it clear that she had “no intention of leaving” the Daily Beast.

Later, Keith Kelly reported that IAC chairman and CEO Barry Diller had a meeting with new Newsweek owner Sidney Harman and that the two were working towards combining the Daily Beast with Newsweek‘s digital operations.

Now, Brown has confirmed that there have indeed been talks between the two companies, although she remained relatively tight-lipped about any impending deal:

We hear something is going on with Newsweek.

How clever of you to notice! Yes, there have been some interesting discussions going on, as we have with potential partners large and small all the time.

Color us intrigued.
