Tina Brown Confirms She Has Her Eye On Newsweek

Daily Beast founder Tina Brown has confirmed that she does indeed have her eye on Newsweek. The deal, if it happens, would expand Brown’s platform, even when/if Newsweek is significantly trimmed and give IAC owner Barry Diller the opportunity to monetize the news and commentary site.

Guardian ventures that the move would drive an even more competitive wedge between Brown and Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington.

Some media experts view this potential move as strange, at best, given Newsweek‘s ongoing struggles and recent exodus of reporting talent (… sometimes to online news sources like, say, the Daily Beast).

But, hey. WWDD?

“The most interesting thing about [a Newsweek-Beast deal] is that it suggests Diller is not endlessly patient,” said British online mogul Nick Denton, the founder of Gawker, earlier this week. “I thought he would give Tina more time and money.”
