WCBS-TV Wallops Competition in Morning Storm Coverage

With the snowstorm barreling down on New York Wednesday, WCBS-TV was besting the other early morning news programs.

From 4 to 7 a.m. Channel 2, with Rob Morrison, Mary Calvi, and John Elliott, had an average of 210,000 (according to figures obtained by WCBS), 58 percent higher than the station’s typical January audience of 133,000.

Part of the WCBS storm coverage included their “exclusive, state-of the art” Mobile2, which is winning praise for its ability to give viewers an immediate look at driving conditions.

WABC was second during Wednesday’s storm, with an average of 189,000 viewers from 4 to 7 a.m. WNBC had an estimated 155,000, while WNYW had 93,000 tuned in and WPIX notched just 87,000.
