It’s been 10 days since WNYW/Channel 5 sent shockwaves through the local news landscape: Greg Kelly promoted to nights, Dave Price hired for Good Day New York, and most stunning of all, Ernie Anastos bounced from the 10 p.m. He remains on the 5 p.m. newscast.

But, in a word– why?

FishbowlNY has attempted to interview station VP/GM Lew Leone regarding the dramatic June 28th decision. But a station spokesperson says there is no talking–yet. We’re told that because of vacation time at the start of last week’s changes, more time was needed for Kelly and Alexander to gel before going on the record.

Of course, the story is not, “How’s their chemistry?” FishbowlNY, like millions of others, simply wants to understand “Why?”

It’s our contention that any other story of this magnitude would have been cause for immediate interview requests with talent and management, but the Anastos wrinkle seemingly torpedoes that. Instead, Channel 5 officials, who made this carefully crafted decision, have elected to stay below the radar until they deem the time is right.
