Professional Experience

I am an experienced Chicago-based journalist and author available for writing and editing assignments. I pride myself on having a keen editor's eye and writing clear, accurate, and engaging prose. As a journalist for major U.S. newspapers and magazines - including The Washington Post, Boston Globe, and Miami Herald - for more than a decade, I have covered everything from elections, education, parenting and plane crashes to hurricanes, hackers, and neuroscience. I served as The Washington Post's New England correspondent in Boston for six years and was one of 10 international journalists selected for a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I also have contributed to National Geographic News, The Economist, Boston Magazine, NPR, Slate’s DoubleX, and FRONTLINE, and co-authored a triple memoir that Oprah’s O Magazine dubbed “A Tome of the Brave.”
