Brooklyn Book Festival: multiple points of viewWhile Mary Reagan captured the day's events in pictorial format, as did sarahana and many more, others went the text-based route. Agent KTBuffy (not sure if she's deliberately anonymous, but let's assume that's the case) was on hand to cheer on the YA panel and "trying to keep the huge big fan side of my personality from popping out and overwhelming my cool agenty persona."Lots of festival coverage from the Gowanus Lounge, as well as from Anthony Rainone, and brothercyst used the Festival to describe his love-hate relationship with the Borough: "by destination was immediately in sight and there was no chance of getting lost. Everything was bright and warm and the area kind of actually looked like 14th St.-Union Square. I felt great. I immediately and ashamedly forgave Brooklyn for the previous night." Rachel Kempster of DK Publishing, who was there with two of her colleagues, sent in this report: "We had a booth in support of our two big fall kids books, PICK ME UP and GO. We gave away 250 PICK ME UP galleys and tons of bookmarks, postcards and stickers. We had finished preview copies of both books for folks to look through. We were in a great spot near the Target tent and the greenmarket. "From 10-12, we had dozens of people ask us what was going on--better signage (overall signage for the festival) would have helped. That said, the festival organizers were great. Set-up was hassle-free. By noon, our booth was hopping. The crowd was great--more families than hipsters (they must have slept late). Having galleys to give out was great, people were shocked that were giving free things away. We also had lots of teachers and librarians stop by. Everyone seemed to be having a great time at the festival. "All in all it was an amazing day. We connected with lots of young readers--some even hugged me because they were so thrilled to get galleys! And at the end of the day, the folks running booths got pocket Moleskine notebooks branded with the name of the festival. Free notebook? A personal thank you from the festival organizer who gave it to me? I hardly had time to complain about working on a Saturday." Email This Post |
