Financial Times Builds Web App

Financial Times is now urging readers to switch to a web app, rather than an App Store app, to read the paper on mobile devices.

Most publishers focus on getting in the crowded Apple App Store, but Financial Times will test a new model outside of that marketplace. Do you think more publishers and authors should try to break outside of Apple’s closed system?

Here’s more about the app: “We have launched a new, faster, more complete app for the iPad and iPhone which is available via your browser rather than from an app store. We’re encouraging our readers to switch immediately to the new FT web app, as many new features and sections will be added over the coming weeks. Make sure you don’t miss out on these updates.”
