I guess this is something of a historic blogosphere moment, since the two Galleycats have never been photographed side-by-side before...well, at any rate, that's me, Ron Hogan, on the left, and Sarah Weinman on the right. We were out at Lolita last night celebrating the publication of my new coffee table book on '70s Hollywood, The Stewardess Is Flying the Plane—and despite the rain, the party actually drew quite a good crowd. Although much of that surely has to do with the fact that I was throwing a joint party with Phil Campbell, a buddy of mine who recently published a memoir of his tragicomic foray into local Seattle politics called Zioncheck for President. (Would it be too glib to call it "Singles meets All the King's Men"? Probably. But I'll say anything if it'll get you to read this book.)
Among the other bookish celebs in attendance over the course of the evening: fellow blogger Maud Newton, novelists Tara McCarthy, Jason Starr and Lynda Curnyn, short story writer/journalist Alix Strauss, Hard Case Crime co-publishers Charles Ardai and Max Phillips, Soft Skull head Richard Nash, and nonfiction writers Mark Rotella and Natalie Robins (who also brought her husband, former NYT daily book reviewer Christopher Lehmann-Haupt).
