Ross Perot Inks Deal for Memoir

Ross Perot — the rogue Texas business man who shook things up during the 1992 presidential election by winning 19 percent of the popular vote as an independent with a campaign dedicated to balancing the federal budget — is writing a memoir.

Simon & Schuster will publish the book, which is called, Ross Perot: My Life, and is slated for release in January 2013. In the book, Perot will tell his tale which includes building high tech businesses, rescuing POWs and being the most successful third party candidate in the country.

In 2002, Tapestry Press published a book of Perot’s philosophies written by Perot called Ross Perot: My Life & The Principles for Success.

Perot got his start in business in 1962 when he founded Electronic Data Systems for $1000, a company he sold to General Motors for $2.5 billion in 1984. As CEO he ended up in the unique position of having to rescue two employees who were captured by Iranian revolutionaries, which led him to dedicate himself to brining home American POWs from Southeast Asian. When he ran for office, his campaign focused on balancing the federal government’s deficit back when it was only $4.8 trillion.
