Matthew C. Baldacci Named VP of Marketing at Scholastic Trade Publishing

In his new role, Baldacci will manage the marketing and brand strategy for all the imprints within the trade publishing division. He reports to the division’s president, Ellie Berger.

Inbali Iserles Inks a Trilogy Deal with Scholastic

Inbali Iserles, a UK-based writer, has landed a deal with Scholastic for the I Am Fox middle-grade trilogy.

The release of book one, Foxcraft, has been scheduled for 2015; that title will be published simultaneously in the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Ellie Berger, president of Scholastic Trade, negotiated the deal with Zoe King, a partner and literary agent at the Blair Partnership, at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Dav Pilkey Lands Deal for New Captain Underpants Books

Dav Pilkey will publish two new Captain Underpants books with Scholastic. The new books will come out in August 2014 and August 2015. Here’s more Pilkey news from the release:

Scholastic will publish newly re-illustrated editions of Pilkey’s seven-book Ricky Ricotta series, featuring a mouse and his big robot friend, with all new full-color art by bestselling illustrator Dan Santat. Scholastic will reissue Ricky Ricotta novels #1 through #7 starting in May 2014—plus two brand new Ricky Ricotta books (Ricky Ricotta #8 and #9) in Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 respectively.

The deal was negotiated with Scholastic Trade president Ellie Berger by two Writers House agents. Amy Berkower represented Dav Pilkey and Jodi Reamer represented Dan Santat.

 

David Baldacci Lands Deal with Scholastic

Bestselling author David Baldacci  has signed a deal with Scholastic for a middle grade fantasy novel.

The children’s publisher will release The Finisher next March, the story of a fourteen-year-old girl named Vega Jane.

Scholastic Trade president Ellie Berger negotiated the deal with Aaron Priest, of the Aaron M. Priest Literary Agency. Executive editor Rachel Griffiths will edit the manuscript.

Scholastic Promotes Lori Benton to VP & Publisher

Lori Benton has been named vice president and publisher of the Scholastic Trade Publishing division.

According to the release, Benton will “oversee direction of the publishing program for all imprints of the division. She will assume her new responsibilities January 3, 2011, and report to Ellie Berger, President of Scholastic Trade Publishing.”

Prior to joining Scholastic, Benton served as the publisher of the fiction division of Capstone Publishers. In the past, she has worked in the children’s divisions at HarperCollins and Macmillan. Benton also devoted thirteen years of her career as a children’s book buyer for the independent bookseller, The Book Shop.
