James Franco To Publish Debut Poetry Collection

Movie star and author James Franco has inked a book deal to publish his debut poetry collection with Graywolf Press. Publication is set for April of 2014.

In an interview with MTV News, Franco said was pondering “the idea of L.A. as a place where people’s dreams can come true, but also L.A. as a place that eats its young.” He had already written poems about a famous Los Angeles hotel and Lindsay Lohan.

Here’s an excerpt: I’ve done a few projects about actors that have died young — James Dean, River Phoenix and Brad Renfro. Lindsay and I had reconnected at that time. I had been writing some poems about the Chateau Marmont and one or two of the poems involved Lindsay [Lohan].” (Link via Don Linn, Image via Twitter)

New Literary Mash-Up Genre: Tabloid Fiction

Russian short story writer Anton Chekhov has joined British novelist Jane Austen on the mash-up victims’ list. New Yorker editor Ben Greenman has published Celebrity Chekhov, taking Chekhov’s writings and adding celebrities. Not to give away too much, but actress Lindsay Lohan receives a flogging on the command of her reality star mother, Dina Lohan.

The Daily News explained how Greenman conceived this idea for “Tab Lit:” “Greenman determined that the best way to update Chekhov’s dramas of love, loss and pride was via our national obsession with fame. ‘Aren’t celebrities fictional characters anyway?’ he asks. Besides, he points out, celebrities face ‘similar pressures’ to Chekhov’s characters: Many of the stories deal with the divide between public and private.”

Earlier this year, Greenman released What He’s Poised To Do, a collection of fourteen short stories about love and letter-writing. Chekhov was renowned for his short stories and plays, especially his four major plays: The Seagull, Uncle Vanya, Three Sisters, and The Cherry Orchard. He also practiced medicine and maintained a busy career as a physician. According to the publication Letters of Anton Chekhov he once said, “Medicine is my lawful wife and literature is my mistress.”

Lindsay Lohan Writing a Memoir

t_5495.jpgActress Lindsay Lohan told OK Magazine that she is working on a memoir about her life and rehabilitation.

Here’s the quote: “I write a lot and it’s very therapeutic for me because then I can see what’s happening on paper. I’ve started writing a book. It’s going to take a while, all my life experiences. I started writing it a year ago. There’s a lot to put down, you know?”

We look forward to finding out who will publish this new memoir. It will join a thin bookshelf of Lohan books, including the UK title, Lindsay Lohan–Living Dangerously. Comedian Chelsea Handler turned the memoir into a Zen parable with a tweet: “If Lindsay Lohan writes a book, but nobody reads it…did it really happen?”
