The Avengers Trailer Released

The first official trailer for Marvel’s The Avengers has arrived. What do you think?

Directed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, the star-studded cast includes Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Chris Evans as Captain America, , Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.

The Huffington Post talked to Evans about the film. He explained: “It’s not easy trying to bring all those characters together and find a story, but the best thing about Joss is that Joss is a fan, Joss is a comic book guy … the people I am trying to please is Joss. Joss is one of those dudes. And if Joss is happy with the dialog, if Joss is happy with the wardrobe, if Joss is happy, then I’m happy. Because he’s Comic-Con, he’s one of these dudes who would be in the audience geeking out, so if he’s happy, I’m happy.”

Thomas Pynchon’s Inherent Vice Could Be Adapted by Paul Thomas Anderson

Director Paul Thomas Anderson may adapt Thomas Pynchon‘s stoner private detective novel, Inherent Vice. According to an anonymous source, there is already one high profile contender for the lead role.

Here’s more about the project from Vulture: “One source familiar with the project said that Anderson’s agency, Creative Artists, has been pondering the idea of trying to attach Robert Downey Jr. as Doc Sportello, but another source cautions there’s no official Downey involvement yet and, in any event, Downey’s schedule is so full he wouldn’t available to shoot anything until November 2011 at the earliest.”

Here’s a collection of more Inherent Vice links. Last year, an intrepid Wall Street Journal reporter ran a check with a voice identification expert, confirming that the reclusive novelist had supplied the narration for the Inherent Vice book trailer. (Via Edward Champion)

Two-Fisted Sherlock Holmes Movie Trailer

In what promises to be one of the most controversial literary adaptations of the year, a Sherlock Holmes trailer has surfaced on the Internets–showing Robert Downey Jr.‘s remarkably two-fisted version of the classic detective.

The trailer is embedded above, but you can read more about the film at the Internet Movie Database. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the movie stars Jude Law as Dr. Watson and Rachel McAdams as Holmes’ love interest.

Here’s more from Entertainment Weekly: “We’ve already learned that, in the film, Holmes fights a Satanist, trades banter with a dashing Watson, and is foiled by McAdams’ Irene Adler. Now we get to see it in action … Are you already prepared to camp out for tickets to the Christmas release?” (Via David Moldawer)
