Hunger Games Soundtrack List Unveiled

Lionsgate has released the full track list for The Hunger Games movie soundtrack.

According to Entertainment Weekly, “The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 & Beyond” album will have 16 songs. It will be released on March 20th, and the official score will follow on March 26th.

Follow this link to see the full soundtrack listing. T Bone Burnett served as executive producer for both the soundtrack and the movie score. The soundtrack includes songs by indie bands like Arcade Fire and The Decemberists alongside songs by mainstream acts like Taylor Swift and Maroon 5.

7.5 Million Copies of Hunger Games Sold Since First Movie Trailer Release

The Hollywood Reporter just revealed a Hunger Games cover story this month.

The article reported that 7.5 million Hunger Games books have been sold since the first trailer’s release back in November 2011.

The article included the news that Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth (the principal actors) have signed on to star in the full four-movie franchise. The trio was joined by director Gary Ross in the cover photo for this month’s issue of the magazine. Follow this link to see more pictures.

Robert Pattinson & Cosmopolis Win MTV Movie Brawl

Over at MTV News, sixteen upcoming movies were pitted against one another to determine the winner of the “MTV Movie Brawl 2012.” In the final round, almost four million votes were cast and Cosmopolis (a Don DeLillo adaptation starring Twilight actor Robert Pattinson) emerged victorious over The Hunger Games (starring Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence).

In an interview with MTV, director David Cronenberg explained how he first learned about the brawl: “Cosmopolis, while I think in terms of what it is as cinema is pretty hefty, but in terms of budget and promotion, it’s an underdog compared to something like the Dark Knight franchise. I really didn’t think we would have much of a chance. That really got my attention.”

In the video embedded above, MTV caught up with Cosmopolis actor Paul Giamatti to get his reaction on the movie’s win. Several of the Movie Brawl film are literary adaptations including John CarterThe AvengersSnow White & the HuntsmanThe Hobbitand The Dark Knight Rises.

5 Literary Adaptations to Look Forward to Next Year

Hollywood has lots of new literary movies scheduled for 2012. Here are five upcoming literary movies to look forward to in the new year.

Walt Disney Animation Studios will rerelease Beauty and the Beast in 3D. The film’s story comes from Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont‘s version of the fairy tale called La Belle et la Bête. It arrives in theaters on January 13th.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the sequel to the 2007 film, once again stars Oscar winner Nicholas Cage as the Marvel Comics antihero. The movie comes out on February 17th.

Taylor Swift, Arcade Fire & The Decemberists Record Songs for Hunger Games Album

Lionsgate has unveiled a new Taylor Swift song for The Hunger Games called “Safe and Sound;” the ballad features musical-duo The Civil Wars.

Above, we’ve embedded a video that contains the full track–what do you think? Deadline reports that twelve hours following the song’s release, it hit iTunes’ top ten singles list.

Fans can expect more music to come from Canadian indie band Arcade Fire with a song titled Horn of Plenty. Folk-rock group The Decemberists also created an original song titled One Engine. All of these musical contributions will be featured on a companion album for The Hunger Games; the actual movie soundtrack will be released separately.

‘The Hunger Games’ First Official Trailer Released

The first full trailer for The Hunger Games film debuted on Good Morning America in New York City’s Times Square today. We’ve embedded the video above. More than three thousand Facebook fans have hit “like” on the announcement.

What do you think? The trailer offers glimpses of several major events in the story. Judging from this short clip as well as the teaser released three months ago, it seems that the movie will be faithful to the original novel (author Suzanne Collins played a major role in adapting her book).

Scholastic to Publish ‘The Hunger Games Tribute Guide’

Scholastic will publish The Hunger Games Tribute Guide, giving readers a glimpse into the stories of 24 tributes who endure a brutal competition in Suzanne CollinsThe Hunger Games.

Here’s more from the release: “Readers follow the Tributes’ journey from the Reaping to the Games, with a look at all the highlights along the way—the Tribute Parade, the stations of the Training Center, the interviews, and more. The book will include exclusive information about the Tributes’ strengths and weaknesses, their weapons of choice, and their experience in the Capitol before entering the arena.”

In Suzanne Collins‘ book, not much is revealed about the majority of the tributes. In fact, the names of 15 tributes have never been revealed. On the film’s Facebook page, several actors will be playing “Tribute Boy” and “Tribute Girl.” It will be interesting to see if new content may surface in this publication.

The Hunger Games Parody to Be Published

As fangirls prepare to dress up in their Katniss Everdeen costumes for Halloween, a Hunger Games spoof will be published on November 15th.  The video embedded above features the book trailer for The Hunger But Mainly Death Games–what do you think?

Curious readers can access the first chapter on Scribd. Here’s more about the book: “[This is] the only book brave enough to suggest that The Hunger Games was way more about death than food. Or at least this is what Bratniss Everclean discovers, when she shortsightedly volunteers for a teenage death tournament. But she soon realizes there are fates worse than death…like having to kiss her fellow competitor and lifelong stalker, Pita Malarkey.”

On Amazon, “Bratniss Everclean” is listed as the author, but the cover image lists Aaron Geary and John Bailey Owen as the authors.  According to Amazon, Harvard Lampoon will publish another spoof  in 2012, The Hunger Pains.

Hunger Games Set Photos Released

Lionsgate has released photos from the set of The Hunger Games adaptation. The photo embedded above shows actors Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth in the adaptation.

Director Gary Ross complimented Hemsworth’s commitment to the role: “On first glance he’s such a hunk that it’s easy to ascribe a hunklike simplicity to him. But this is a phenomenally subtle actor, totally in control of what he was doing.”

Below, we’ve embedded a photo of Josh Hutcherson. According to Entertainment Weekly, Hutcherson gained fifteen pounds of muscle in three weeks in order to better embody his character’s physique.
