Becca Fitzpatrick Inks Deal For New YA Thriller

beccaBecca Fitzpatrick, the young adult author behind the Hush, Hush saga, has landed a deal for a new book called Sapphire Skies.

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers plans to publish this stand-alone thriller novel in Fall 2015. Executive editor Zareen Jaffery negotiated the deal with Inkwell Management literary agent Catherine Drayton. The story stars a 17-year-old girl named Stella Gordon who ends up in the witness protection program due to extraordinary circumstances.

Fitzpatrick had this statement in the press release: “I’m delighted to be writing another young adult thriller for Simon & Schuster—this about a girl who’s running from dangerous men and a haunted past. I’m drawn to stories that weave heart-stopping suspense with broiling romance, and Sapphire Skies is no exception.”

Christina Lauren to Publish YA Debut with Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

580848_351740691539619_2043863773_nChristina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, better known by their pseudonym Christina Lauren, have signed a deal Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers for their debut young adult novel, Sublime.

These two partners established their collaborative writing careers with the bestselling adult fiction series, Beautiful Bastard and Wild Seasons. The publisher has scheduled the release for Fall 2014.

Executive editor Zareen Jaffery will edit the manuscript. She negotiated the deal with Waxman Leavell literary agent Holly Root.

Jenny Han Lands Deal for Semi-Autobiographical YA Novel

Jenny Han has inked a deal for her “semi-autobiographical” young adult novel. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers will publish To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before in April 2014.

Publisher Justin Chanda negotiated the deal with Folio Literary Management senior vice president Emily Van Beek. Executive editor Zareen Jaffery will edit the manuscript. Here’s more from the release:

Octavia Spencer Lands Book Deal at Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

The Help star Octavia Spencer inked a book deal with Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. Spencer’s debut novel, Randi Rhodes, Ninja Detective: The Case of the Time-Capsule Bandit, is scheduled for release in fall 2013.

It is the first installment of a two-book middle grade series. Executive editor Zareen Jaffery negotiated the deal with William Morris Endeavor literary agent Andy McNichol. Jaffrey will edit the manuscript.

Here’s more from the release: “Randi Rhodes isn’t your average twelve-year-old. She’s a Brooklyn vigilante with a Tae Kwon Do black belt. But circumstances take a turn for the worse when Randi’s mother passes away and her father decides to move to the small and sleepy town of Deer Creek, Tennessee. Gaby Rodriguez Lands Book Deal

17-year-old Gaby Rodriguez caused a stir when she faked her pregnancy last year.  Her campaign sparked a movie deal with Lifetime, a Today Show appearance and a book deal with Simon & Schuster Young Readers.

Sharlene Martin, Rodriguez’s literary manager, explained how the deal came about: “When executive editor Zareen Jaffery saw the story in GalleyCat, she asked for the proposal which led to a very quick pre-emptive offer.”

The book will be published early 2012 to coincide with the Lifetime Movie which is being produced by Barbara Lieberman, Anne Bremner and Sharlene Martin.  The Taryn Fagerness Agency will handle foreign rights.
