But the White House has asked a court to reject a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit that is seeking their release to the public.

Breaking Down GLAAD's Latest 'Where We Are On TV' Report (FishbowlLA)
The press release put out Wednesday by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in support of its 16th annual "Where We Are on TV" report is somewhat misleading. It trumpets the fact that "Fox is now the most inclusive broadcast television network, with 6.8 percent of regular characters being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender." In fact, the network that really deserves the PR lede is ABC. THR: The number of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered characters on broadcast television for the 2011-12 season has declined slightly, according to a new report from watchdog group GLAAD. TheWrap.com: According to the annual study issued Wednesday to coincide with National Disability Employment Awareness Month, five of 647 regular characters on broadcast networks have a disability.

Fox O&Os Launch Michael Jackson Doctor Trial App (B&C)
Fox Television Stations has launched a mobile app dedicated to the Conrad Murray (Michael Jackson's doctor) trial that the station group is billing as the first app exclusively dedicated to covering the trial. FishbowlLA: For 99 cents, iPhone, iPad, and Android users get access to live coverage of the trial, along with recorded local news segments, photo galleries, and biographies of all the key people involved in the case.

News Corp.'s 'Daily' With 120,000 Readers Trails Murdoch Goal (Bloomberg)
News Corp.'s The Daily is averaging about 120,000 readers per week, or less than one-quarter the number the company said it needs to make money, according to an advertising executive working with the iPad-only publication. paidContent: That weekly average, which we've confirmed, includes paying subscribers and people giving it a test run on a two-week free trial. Business Insider / Silicon Alley Insider: The publication lost $10 million in the first quarter. But while that is a lot of money, it's minuscule when compared with News Corp.'s $8 billion-plus quarterly revenue. Adweek: What do newspapers the Toledo Blade, the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and Rupert Murdoch's tablet paper, The Daily, all have in common? Each one has a weekly circulation of about 120,000.

Amazon's Kindle Fire Could Ignite Tablet Media Consumption (AdAge / MediaWorks)
By pricing its new Kindle Fire tablet at less than one-half the cost of an Apple iPad, Amazon is setting up tablet consumption of media to spread more widely and quickly than was previously possible. GigaOM: The presentation is simple, inviting, and intuitive, and what you get for $199 is impressive. The screen looks great and has wide viewing angles with its IPS display, although there is some glare to deal with. The body itself looks similar to the BlackBerry Playbook, but remember, RIM's device started at $499 and just recently started getting price cuts down to $299. Amazon is no doubt subsidizing the price with the anticipation of making it up on sales of digital media. GigaOM: While it's nice for media companies to have a strong competitor in the tablet market, dealing with Amazon puts them in the same boat they're in with Apple: They provide the content, but the platform owner controls the relationship. And in some ways, Amazon might be worse. paidContent: The story of the Kindle Fire's impact on the tablet market won't be written until mid-November, when the device launches just before the holiday shopping season and gadget reviewers can put it through the paces. But Amazon has taught other tablet makers a powerful lesson about trying to compete with the company that pretty much invented the modern tablet market. ReadWriteWeb: What does Amazon have that Motorola, HTC, Samsung, LG, and Huawei do not? In a word…everything. Fusible: On the very same day Amazon unveiled the Kindle Fire, the company registered well over 500 domain names related to the Kindle Fire and Silk browser products through brand-protection company MarkMonitor. AllThingsD: If you were looking for another reason to be bearish about Netflix, Amazon helped out Wednesday by unveiling a cheap, attractive tablet designed to work with Amazon's own video service. But here's a reason to be bullish (or just less bearish) about Netflix: Amazon's new tablet is also going to promote Netflix.

No 'Dingers,' 'Jacks,' Or 'Taters': AP Issues World Series Style Guide (Yahoo! News / The Cutline)
"Better to say a player hit a home run, rather than he 'walloped' or 'blasted' or 'cracked' it. Home runs are also homers, but avoid calling them 'dingers,' 'jacks,' 'bombs,' 'taters,' and 'four-baggers.' Pitchers can pitch two-hitters, but avoid 'twirling' or 'chucking' or 'fireballing.' And teams try to reach the World Series instead of the 'Fall Classic.' In short, avoid hackneyed words and phrases."

NBC News President Steve Capus: 'It's OK For A News Division To Stand For Something' (TVNewser)
Capus: "What we can do as a news division is put a very bright spotlight on subjects that we choose to. A producer makes decisions every single day -- are we emphasizing this, are we emphasizing that? Where are we going to place our emphasis, and what are we going to ignore? I think that by saying, 'We're going to do this,' but then stepping back, we can facilitate the conversation without leading it.

McLean was a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and has written several books. Fabrikant was most recently a media reporter for The New York Times, where she had worked since 1985. NY Observer: McLean will write a fortnightly column on "finance, both high and low," according to a memo sent out by Jim Impoco.
