Newsfeed: Update

vvlog.jpgVillage Voice Acknowledges Fabrications in Cover Story (Gawker)
After speculation arose that there was fabricated material in hotshot young writer Nick Sylvester's cover story this week, interim editor Doug Simmons has left the paper (according to a PR rep), but not before berating Sylvester in his office to the point where the young writer fainted. (Um... allegedly) VV Editor's Note: In the article, Sylvester says he met at a NYC bar with three TV writers who had flown in from L.A. to test their updates of pickup techniques from Neil Strauss's book, The Game. That scene, as Sylvester now acknowledges, never happened.

Schieffer Logs One Year in the Anchor Chair (Inky)
Gail Shister: If nominated, he will not run. If elected, he will not serve. Bob Schieffer, who marks his one-year anniversary March 10 as "interim" anchor of CBS Evening News, says he has no interest in making it his permanent address.

Greene Becomes Post City Editor (WaPo)
Marcia Slacum Greene, a reporter and editor at The Washington Post for 22 years, has been named the newspaper's city editor. Her most recent assignment was as assistant District editor for politics and government. Washington City Paper: Will the Post ditch its Health, Food and Home sections in favor of a frequent, more encompassing Lifestyle section?

Woodruff Making 'Good' Progress in Recovery (Newsday)
ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff — who along with cameraman Doug Vogt was seriously injured in an roadside bomb attack Jan. 29 while riding in an armored Iraqi vehicle — continues to make "good" progress, the network reports.

Experts Speculate on Pulitzer Odds (E&P)
Like Oscar speculators who argue Brokeback vs. Crash, newspaper insiders are already talking "Katrina," "secret wiretapping" and "Abramoff." Times-Pic Editor Jim Amoss is no George Clooney, but Clooney never had to relocate an entire newsroom in the middle of a flood.

Over 'Hunk of Meat,' Jann Wenner Considers Rejoining MPA (Jossip)
David Hauslaib: We are not entirely convinced that Jann is the best choice for a Magazine Publishers of America member. Sure, he keeps a tip-top ship running with superb organization — but what about those rumors that Rolling Stone writers give special attention to "Friends of Jann?"

Does He Like Us, or Does He Like Us Like Us? (CJR Daily)
For some bloggers, the news that President George W. Bush liked their collective work was, at first blush, less surprising than the fact that he had finally discovered it. Other bloggers were simply content to roll around in the presidential praise.

NBC Correspondent Calls in to Imus While 'Clearly Drunk' (Drudge Report)
NBC White House correspondent David Gregory, who apologized last week for calling White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan a "jerk," called into MSNBC's IMUS show giggling and apparently drunk. Gregory is traveling with the president in India.

The Larry King of New England Cable (Boston Phoenix)
Mark Jurkowitz: At a time when local TV news treats politics and policy issues like 10 pounds of glowing plutonium, the prime-time NECN shows hosted by Chet Curtis and Jim Braude are an oasis of smart and timely public debate.
