Super Bowl Ad Frenzy Overshadowing the Game?

It’s only Tuesday, but the buzz surrounding the Super Bowl ads is hitting fever pitch. Where to begin?

First, we’ve got more teasers and pre-releases. Mashable has a rundown of the most shared as of yesterday afternoon. But since then, we’ve already added a teaser from Hulu, starring Will Arnett (note the #mushymush hashtag) and the latest Acura ad, starring Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno. The hashtag for that one is #JerryNSX. Brands have learned that they have to take digital initiative to get the most bang for their many, many bucks if they want to get their own version of “The Force.”

Former NYC Education Comms Director Joins News Corp

Just one day after it was announced that News Corp‘s SVP of public affairs and communications, Teri Everett, would be stepping down, the company has announced that another comms director is stepping in.

Natalie Ravitz, the communications director for the New York City Department of Education, is joining News Corp as Rupert Murdoch’s chief of staff. The change takes effect in two weeks. A focus of her job will be to “prioritize my commitments to align with key News Corp. initiatives,” according to an internal email from Murdoch.

Ravitz has a history with another News Corp exec, Joel Klein, the former NYC Department of Education who left in 2010 to serve as EVP at News Corp. According to the L.A. Times, Klein’s influence at the company is growing.

Julie Henderson has been promoted to Everett’s previous position.

Pinterest Expanding Its Audience Beyond Women

Thus far, women have been driving the amazing growth of Pinterest, the social network where users “pin” images to share info. Now that the site is a bonafide hit, others may be jumping on the bandwagon.

Despite the annoying headline (“Pinterest: Where domestic divas hang out online’) this story uses a quote from the Pinterest website that says the site wasn’t meant to be just for the ladies.

“Our goal is to connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting,” the quote says. “With millions of new pins added every week, Pinterest is connecting people all over the world based on shared tastes and interests.”

TheStreet.com goes a step further with its article, “Why More Men Should Join Pinterest.” Among the four reasons it gives are “product discovery” and “more engagement with strangers.”

Mashable recently outlined the “21 Must-Follow Pinterest Users” and among them are a few guys and a few accounts that have general interest, like one on gadgets.

Businesses may also start seeing the benefits of becoming involved. Monetate has published an infographic that shows the high level of sharing the site is generating and its growing importance to the retail industry (a point that’s also made here). That infographic is available after the jump.

Tips for Landing Your Dream Job

Mediabistro’s Job Search Boot Camp got underway today with the opening keynote speech presented by Meryl Cooper, co-founder of Allen/Cooper Enterprises and one half of the writing team behind the book Be Your Own Best Publicist: How To Use PR Techniques to Get Hired, Noticed and Rewarded at Work.

Cooper offered a number of job-searching tips that not only help you get that coveted position but, for the PRNewser crowd, also put to use many of the PR skills that you’d be using in your daily work. For example, Cooper says you must build relationships. To paraphrase, connections lead to leads, which leads to interviews. And the more interviews you have, the better your chances.

Few People Paid Attention to the People Flying Around NYC

To promote the new film Chronicle, marketing firm ThinkModo rigged up three “custom-made aircraft” and flew them around New York City landmarks (above).

Gothamist notes that there wasn’t a lot of talk about any flying objects around the Brooklyn Bridge or Statue of Liberty recently, kind of strange in this post-9/11 world. But there has been some media coverage featuring the clip. ThinkModo, which describes itself as a “viral marketing company,” was responsible for the Times Square billboard hacking to promote Limitless and the “iPad head girl” stunt to promote Cosmo for Guys.
