Akira Yamada has been named the president and CEO of Kyodo Public Relations, one of the largest firms in Japan, after the company’s founder Sakae Ohashi stepped down following a financial scandal. An investigation found that Ohashi embezzeled money to repay personal loans. Two board members have also left the company. Yamada says a corporate governance group has been established. H-P CEO Meg Whitman has hired Henry Gomez as chief comms officer and EVP. The two have a long relationship that extends back to her work at eBay and her run for California governor. The relationship even spawned the moniker “Menry.” AllThingsD has the press release.
Michael Frohlich has been named Ogilvy PR‘s MD of the EAME region’s consumer marketing practice, a newly-created position. Frohlich was previously with the Bell Pottinger Group, which recently ran into trouble over some secret footage. He’ll join the firm in February. [via]
Laura Nelson has joined Current TV as SVP of communications, in charge of corp comms, internal comms, executive communications, and programming publicity. Nelson was previously MD at consulting firm, The Gilbride Group. She has also worked for Oxygen and other networks.
Gary Grates has joined the leadership team at WCG and its new parent company WCGC where he will lead the firm’s corporate practice, build the firm’s international presence, and lead client services in areas like corporate positioning, change management, and M&A. He was previously president and global MD of Edelman’s Change and Employee Engagement group.
Business Wire has named Olivier Corneloup director of Southern Europe and the Middle East. He’s been with the company for five years, and was most recently the regional manager for France and Southern Europe. He’ll be working with BW affiliates in his territory, including The News Services Group in Dubai. The company has also promoted Matthew Policastro to regional VP in Southern California. He’s been with the company since 2003 and was previously the regional manager of the Los Angeles office. He’ll now be the head of that location as well as the ones in San Diego and Newport Beach. Finally, Kim Deonanan has been named director of Northern and Central Europe. She’s been with the company for a decade and was previously the regional manager for the UK/Ireland territory. In her new role, she’ll also be responsible for the Frankfurt office and the Germany, Austria, and Switzerland regions.
