Roll Call: Microsoft, Alcoa, Lane PR, and More

Microsoft has a new SVP of consumer channels and the Central Marketing Group: Chris Capossela. Capossela replaces Mich Mathews, who announced last week that she would be stepping down. Capossela was previously the SVP of the Office division, which houses Office, SharePoint, and other product lines. In this role, he also oversaw the launches of Office 2007 and 2010. [via TechCrunch]

Dina Shapiro has been named director of marcomms and branding at Alcoa. She will lead marketing strategy across the country and around the world. She was most recently the SVP of brand strategy at Citibank. Shapiro has 18 years of marketing experience including work with advertising firms JWT and BBDO.

Roll Call: Microsoft’s Marketing Head Stepping Down

Microsoft’s global head of marketing Mich Mathews has announced her retirement after more than 20 years with the company Ad Age reports. She oversees consumer brands including Windows and Xbox, and its $1 billion marketing budget. She began working with Microsoft in 1989 and, by 1993, became head of the company’s corporate PR function. She became an officer with the company in 1999. She is helping with the search for a replacement.

John Blyth has been selected as president of Fleishman-Hillard Canada, a region containing 10 offices and High Road Communications, a tech and digital lifestyle firm that’s part of the F-H portfolio. Blyth joined the firm in 2010 and has spent much of his 30-year career at McDonald’s where he served as VP of corporate comms.

Annalise Coady has also been named president of High Road Communications following the resignations of Mia Pearson and Justin Creally, who are starting a new company. Coady joined the firm in 2004 and has worked in offices around the world, serving as MD of the firm’s Middle East office in 201o. She’s also co-chair of the firm’s tech practice.

Frank Shaw Leaves Waggener for Microsoft

Frank X. Shaw, Waggener Edstrom’s top exec on the Microsoft account announced his departure today–for Microsoft. He will be VP of Corporate Communications, starting at the end of August, according to his Glass House blog post this morning. He’ll report to Mich Mathews, senior VP for Microsoft’s Central Marketing Group

Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is Waggener’s biggest account, and Shaw has been a part of it from the beginning dating back at least as far as the Windows XP launch of 2001. His total tenure at WE is 14 years.

WE’s statement is amicable, and announces that Shaw’s duties will be handled by Pam Edstrom herself in the interim.

Shaw replaces Simon Sproule, who was only in the position for five months. Sproule returns to the auto business by joining Renault-Nissan Alliance in Paris. He was at Nissan prior to Microsoft.
