Honey Maid Issues World’s Nicest ‘STFU’ to Gay Rights Haters

Well, then.

You may recall that Cheerios received what we residents of the 21st century would call a shocking number of negative comments about its ad featuring interracial parents–and that Honey Maid got even more blowback from commentors and conservative Christian groups like One Million Moms (more like 64,500 moms) for the “Love Is Wholesome” spot featuring same-sex couples and their kids.

Here’s the company’s response, released this week:

You could call this a case of “doubling down” on corporate messaging efforts, but since One Million Moms referenced Romans 1:26-27 in its call to action, we’d prefer to summarize it with Biblical verse. Here’s Matthew 5:39:

“But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also.”

Here’s another one that comes from a book whose name we can’t quite remember…

“You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.”

Yep. That’s the one.

Angry Moms Give Kraft Some Free Publicity

When not exaggerating its own membership, claiming responsibility for the cancellation of The New Normal (it was a bad show, guys), or failing to recognize Twitter‘s 140-character limit, the non-profit outrage organization One Million Moms searches pop culture high and low for the latest and greatest threats to its members’ conservative Christian sensibilities.

In the past, these easily offended mother hens wagged their fingers at everyone from the Boy Scouts to The Cleveland Show and Dancing with the Stars. While we share the group’s distaste for any show featuring Tucker Carlson AND Kate Gosselin, we have to laugh about their latest pet cause—condemning this “disgusting” ad for Kraft salad dressing. Shame on those heathens, et cetera et cetera.

One question: do they not realize that they just gave this brand free publicity?

The DeGeneres/JCPenney Controversy Doesn’t Play According to Script

So often these days, we hear stories about people taking to the Internet against this or that issue and exacting change. In that regard, it’s a “man bites dog” story when that script doesn’t play out.

A group called One Million Moms tried to mobilize supporters against JC Penney and its decision to hire openly gay and very popular talk show host Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson. Despite numerous appeals from the group, JC Penney decided to stick with DeGeneres. Moreover, people actually went online to congratulate JC Penney and speak against the group, calling them “bullies” and “haters.” This the same week that California struck down its ban on gay marriage and Washington made same-sex marriage legal. We like this a lot.
