Roll Call: CommCreative, Saatchi and Saatchi and DeVries Global

The senior management team at CommCreative has grown, adding John Lawlor as chief operating officer and promoting Joanna Bittle to vice president of strategy. As COO, John directs strategic planning efforts and agency growth. In addition, he supports the account management team with an emphasis on delivering value and results. John brings 25 years of proven business management with corporate, entrepreneurial and privately owned companies and a unique combination of business, marketing, brand strategy and communications experience. Prior to joining CommCreative, John was a principal for Practical Decisions. He also served as vice president of strategic development for Liberty Mutual’s Property Division, a partner with MetroWest Business Advisors, past president of the Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce and a certified Master Mentor with CMT International. Joanna has been a member of the CommCreative team for more than eight years. In her new role as VP of Strategy, she is responsible for leading and overseeing integrated marketing strategy for all of the agency’s clients and serving as the account supervisor on select accounts, including Staples, Verisk Health, and Experian QAS. Saatchi and Saatchi Los Angeles is adding three seasoned advertising industry veterans to its team. Group account director David Lowrie, group creative director Mark Laughlin and creative director Marlon Hernandez will now all call SSLA home. Lowrie joins SSLA from AKQA NY, and with a wealth of experience in both retail and e-commerce, including leading efforts to launch ATT.com, Humana.com, and a re-design of VerizonWireless.com and Verizon’s new Flagship retail space opening in the Mall of America. Most recently, Laughlin was the executive creative director tasked with opening the R/GA office in Los Angeles, where he built an enterprise site for Beats by Dre. Prior to that, Mark was ECD on Nike at R/GA New York, where he was responsible for delivering world-class digital experiences while leading multidisciplinary campaign and platform teams. Hernandez began his career at branding agencies Landor and Siegel+Gale before embarking on nearly two decades’ worth of experience at R/GA, Ogilvy, TBWA\Chiat\Day and others. Some of the clients he has worked with include Microsoft, Nike and Verizon, as well as Subaru and Volkswagen. (Release)

Publicis and Omnicom Join to Create Agency Supernova, Inspire Twitter Jokes

This weekend we moved a step closer to The Singularity as the world’s two largest PR/marketing/advertising groups announced plans to join, creating one unstoppable media megalith that will easily pass WPP to become the biggest, most powerful group in the history of big, powerful groups.

Together, Publicis and Omnicom include agencies from Saatchi & Saatchi and Leo Burnett to BBDO and DDB Worldwide.

On Saturday and Sunday the two companies confirmed the move and released statements from co-CEOs Maurice Levy and John Wren, who made a public appearance together; Levy said the merger started as “almost a joke” six months ago. One thing the pair didn’t do was secure the Twitter handles @OmnicomPublicis or @PublicisOmnicom, a fact that allowed a couple of industry wise guys to have a bit of fun in the wake of the announcement:

Roll Call: Saatchi & Saatchi, ‘The Financial Times’ and ‘Adweek’

Michael Lee has been promoted to CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi Greater China. Michael, currently president and COO for Greater China, has over 20 years agency experience, most of it in China. He has played a key role in growing Saatchi & Saatchi with a range of new business wins and most recently being awarded ‘Creative Agency of the Year’ by China Advertising Magazine and R3. In this role Michael will lead the Saatchi & Saatchi offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Michael, who is based in Shanghai, will report to Chris Foster, Chairman and CEO for Asia-Pacific, based in Singapore. (Release)

The Financial Times announced the appointment of Darcy Keller as global communications director, responsible for all external and internal communications across FT Group, effective August 1. Reporting to FT Group CEO John Ridding, Keller also joins the FT Executive Board, which oversees the company’s global strategy and performance. She will relocate from New York to London to lead a global communications team based in London, New York and Hong Kong. Keller brings extensive media and communications experience to the role and has held a number of senior positions at the FT since joining in 2007, including deputy director of global communications, head of the global press office and head of communications in the Americas. Since 2010, she has served on the company’s Senior Management and Digital Executive teams, responsible for the FT’s digital and mobile strategy and growth in recent years. (Release)

Suzan Gursoy has been promoted from interim publisher of Adweek to publisher. She had the “interim” tag since February. Prior to that, Gursoy served as Adweek’s integrated advertising director, from 2010 to 2013. Before Gursoy’s time at Adweek, she oversaw business development for WWD. (FishbowlNY)

Social Media Week Now Has a Health and Wellness Hub

The madness that is Social Media Week (SMW) officially begins on Monday, but organizers, sponsors, and partners kicked things off today with a press conference at the Hearst Building in New York City.

One of the new additions this go round is a Health and Wellness hub in NYC, which was introduced by Saatchi & Saatchi‘s Wellness MD Ned Russell.

Lévy Staying Put at Publicis

This week, Publicis Groupe shareholders voted to raise the age limit for management board members from 70 to 75. This means that Maurice Lévy, the Groupe’s 69-year-old chairman and CEO, can stay on for another five years while a successor is selected.

Publicis firms include MSLGroup as well as advertising giants Saatchi & Saatchi and Leo Burnett.
